Will the mods please sort out the forum censorship. This is getting silly, and slightly insulting.
Agreed - I post on a lot of different forums and this is the only one to censor that word. Presumably their justification is that some small-minded folk might use it in a derogatory way, but surely if that's the case then said folk need to be dealt with according to the forum rules rather than just banning the word outright.
I understand where he's coming from. He played a character that Gene specifically said was straight, and that was George's take on the character as well. That said, ehhh big deal.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard: "We think we've come so far. Torture of heretics, burning of witches, it's all ancient history. Then - before you can blink an eye - suddenly it threatens to start all over again."
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Why's everyone getting their panties in such a twist? There's a minor background revelation about one character - it's not like suddenly this has become "Star Trek: Planet of the Oiled-Up Weightlifters" or something...
PS: Why is Cryptic censoring out the word (begins with a G, has an A in the middle, and ends with a Y)? That isn't a swear word.
I'm guessing because there are a lot of classless people on the internet who use that word in a very disparaging way, and those people tend to outnumber the people who don't.
If you ask me, the fact that the word itself, a word that my father proudly uses to identify himself, is censored is FAR more offensive than people using the word in an incorrect way.
Seeing people say idiotic things like "starfleet is g@%" just tells you how low their intelligence level is, I mean it doesn't even make sense, starfleet is not a living thing, it cannot be happy or homosexual, which are the only two definitions of the word. On the other hand censoring the word g.a.y could imply that people identifying as such are not welcome to be open about who they are.

Ohhh Myyyy...
Right though? I kinda get why Takei's not thrilled about, but I also think that it could be a nice reference and sounds like it'll be tastefully done. I am usually against shoehorning stuff in, but it sounds as though they're not really trying to force it too hard into the narrative.
they should of made Kirk G... instead... see all those women was him overcompensating and trying to convince himself... what he really wanted was Spock all along

Already plenty of K/S fic out there, including (in barely-subtext) the novels Price of the Phoenix and Fate of the Phoenix by Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath. In fact, the subgenre itself, pronounced "kay slash ess", is what gives us the term "slashfic".

if anyone has a right to get his panties in a twist its Takei, since he isn't, no one else should either.
also... this is definitely one for ten forward not here

I'm still waiting for Trek to add a dwarf Captain.
Play a Tellarite. If you mean a Human afflicted with dwarfism (properly a "little person", unless you're trying to offend), then as with most such genetic conditions, it comes with a host of medical issues to which the patient tends to be prone, which is not desirable for someone in command of a starship that may wind up lightyears away from the nearest sophisticated medical assistance. Such an officer would almost certainly be relegated to planetside or starbase duties, where their health can be more easily monitored and treated.

its called 'dwarfism' not 'littlepeopleism' being offended by being called a Dwarf is a modern affectation of the overly p.c. retar ds killing society

If Sulu aka George Takei was too read this post..? do you think he would do a voice over?
He'd prolly slam everyone for havin a shitfit over it. He stated he's against it, tried to get them to change it, and told Cho to go do his thing, but wasn't changing his mind on it. Takei's already moved on, everyone else needs to chillax like he did
Yeah Takei didnt like the idea... he thought they should respect the character as created by Gene... if they want to add a TRIBBLE person in then go for it... but they shouldnt of changed Sulu. At the end of the day, Takei is just an actor and so he doesnt have any say in it... but if he had to sign off on it, he wouldnt of. We will get over this as well... but it just goes to show these folks just dont respect the material they are working on.

Ah, so you do intend to offend. Good to know.
I find "little person" to be more insulting and condescending than "dwarfism". Maybe your confusing midget?
I hoped at the time they would have made Mirror Sulu that way inclined (in Trek Continues I mean). Never mind, I just hope they don't make too big a deal of it in the film. The ideal situation is one where this news is met with "so what?" rather than sparking a flame war, but we're a long way from that.
I can understand both sides of the argument. While I understand what George is saying it's also worth pointing out that the whole reason the Kelvin Universe exists is to give them as close to a clean slate as they can while keeping the familiar characters. While the Prime Universe Sulu is straight I don't really have any problem with his Kelvin Universe counterpart not being that way. Though, I can certainly see where George Takei is coming from in his saying it's a bad idea.

A word used (often in a derogatory fashion) to refer to men who like men.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
EDIT: The G word referring to same gender relationships, or just a state of happiness. What the hell!?

Edit: yeah thats stupid, lots of other words that shouldnt be also like cr-ap.
Edit: it was there after i clicked save comment now its censored again. Oh well.

Kind of puts a whole new meaning to "Where's Sulu?"
as for the topic i get takai's point but pegg made a very valid counter argument.
