How far can we kitbash this and in the future would it be possible to include Kitbash information?

So, the Ranger class e45ec0baab31bb2d1a2a3951beafe07a1465834354.png + the Paladin class 2f7797bc4b333192c044a0f48b96e25e1461693602.png looks really similar to the NX Refit nx_refit_v_03.jpg
and my question is how far can we possibly kitbash this?

And in the future, would it be at all possible for Devs to include Kitbash information? I don't know about other players, but I almost never fly a ship that looks exactly how it does stock. It's one of the best aspects of this game that I get to play Spaceship Barbie

I wish. I'm still hoping we see the Redesigned NX-class/Columbia-class in STO someday.

Kitbashing doesnt exist to this extent in this game. I dont think it ever will and i think most players agree with that.

The most youll see is different skins/templates from the same lineage/variations of the same model or class. Not piecing together broken model pieces to invent your own thing. Like a ship having the saucer of Voyager, the secondary hull of the Galaxy class, and the nacelles of the Defiant is a no go.

I was only referring to those two designs because they are supposed to be interchangeable on the two ships. So it's possible they would be more akin to the variants of the Intrepid class in the sense that you can mix and match all the parts to create your own.

from the Temporal Starter pack page description of Paladin:
Owning the Ranger Class starship allows access to its costume for this starship.
It's not on the big temporal pack page and it's a bit unclear if it's exactly like the usual base/refit/retrofit/T6 relationship (where you can use any owned part on any ship) but It could be. I'm interested in that myself.

Thanks, you did a much better job clarifying that. I should've thought to include it with the images.
I'd love to see if a Dev could expand and answer my question, because as you say, it could be the typical relation with similar starships or it could be simply a skin. I'm hoping it's the latter since I like customization, but we'll have to see.

Probably won't know until AoY launches, but I certainly hope it's more than just the nacelles like with the Intel ships, I expect it to be fully customizable though.

Yeah, i was aware the the Paladin could wear the Ranger skin, Nautilus wear the Daedalus skin, Sagittarius wear the Gemini skin, Theseus wear the Perseus skin. Because those are lineage of the same ship line, like the Defiant has the Valiant, Sao Paulo, Gallant, Etc, because that is the same class lineage.

Then I'm not sure what you're confused about. i'm talking about taking a Paladin and a Ranger and combining their parts to come to as close of an approximation of the NX refit as possible.

sorry, in retrospect, that kinda came off a bit more snarky than I meant.

How much kit could a kitbash bash if a kitbash could bash kits? :D

I don't think you'll be able to interchange the parts of those ships. I think you'll just have access to the other design is all. My reasoning is that the parts don't line up the way that they traditionally do in ship customization. The configuration is just to different for them to match.

I could be completely wrong, but I'd bet money that that's going to be the case.

I have a feeling this time you can really just switch between two hull options. I think mixing 27th and 23rd century components might look quite weird.

I think you'll have an option to use either the TOS model (maybe with its own kitbashing) or the future model (again with its own kitbashing) if you own them. I don't think the two model types would be interchangeable like with the Defiant variants. Mainly because the two ships are quite different physically despite being the same lineage. Heck the Ranger could be half the size of the future version.

That could be the case, however if they meant that I don't think it would say the Ranger skin is usable on the Paladin.

Yes but you can still use the whole skin, you just can't mix parts from each model version.
So you could have a Paladin look like a ranger and vice versa, but not mix n match parts from each.
At least that's what I'm reading from all this.

Yeah, I have a feeling it may go down that way. Wish I could get some specifics one way or the other.

I guess I'm just not sure why they would allow the separate models to be used, yet not allow the interchangeable parts..it just hasn't worked that way in previously-released ships, so why would they start now?

Then again, a certain source that shall not be named here has found some certain information about certain ships. If those ships are lockbox, they'll be a first...
