STO doesn't like Skylake?

I'm gonna try to keep the preamble short. Basically, I switched from an AMD FX chip to an Intel Skylake i7. That's also an implied switch from DDR3 RAM to DDR4. I'd transplanted the HDD from the old board to the new one, and that's when things started to go wonky. A semi-regular TDR would occur when doing any old thing, but trying to play STO produced a hard lock-up. It would start with the system responsiveness steadily dropping until a complete system freeze.
I thought this was just a combination of Windows rot and driver creep, etc, so I ran a completely fresh install of Windows 10 on a brand new SSD. So far no more TDRs, but STO still locks up hard after slowing down the system. I've run Windows Mem Diagnostic, and after the basic 2-pass check it seems alright, so I'm tentatively giving RAM a clean bill, but I'm not sure where that leaves me.
