Chances are, something in the new series will contradict STO (I think STO might have even contradicted itself with the run up to 2009, and Seven's appearance in Delta Rising...) because as noted in the lawsuit thread (or rather the video linked in it) CBS/Paramount will not allow its IP to be dictated by an external source... I know STO is supposed to be PrimeVerse, but it might allow you to keep it straighter in your head and for any new series changes to canon to not be an issue, to consider STO an offshoot timelines which still thinks it is the PrimeVerse...
Which again, supports the idea of just letting STO be its own little sandbox. It is "canon" and "primeuniverse" in so much as everything that happened in the TV series/Movies up to Nemesis, happened. But once the new series comes out it is free to disregard whatever happened in STO. It doesn't effect STO because the two are not the same.
As for Kirk. Lets be honest, the man redefined the phrase "a girlfriend in every port". I think I had a conversation one time, were we basically came up with the idea that a quarter of the galaxy was in some way related to Kirk, based on his 5 year mission to "Boldly go where no man has gone before".

Exactly... I think that is definitely the best approach for fans to take mentally, so as not to be irritated by any discrepancies. In terms of actual show canon, I doubt it'll even be refered to, but I'm sure STO will refer to the new show for new ships, uniforms, races etc...
With regards Kirk, not really... At least, not so much as people say
Wrath of Khan suddenly established that Kirk had an adult son... Final Frontier suddenly established that Spock had an older half-brother...
Well... in defense of Kirk... he didn't know about David. Kirk and Marcus hadn't seen each other in years as of WoK.
Jim and Carol talking in the smaller part of the Genesis Cave, having sent the others off with David to see "our idea of food")
"I did what you wanted - I stayed away. Why didn't you tell him?"
"How can you ask me that? Were we together? Were we going to be--? You had your world, and I had mine. And I wanted him in mine, not chasing around the cosmos after his father!"

Okay.. I can accept that.. Anything moving forward instead of backwards as far as new story telling goes will be welcome. As for STO, Temporal mechanics as a hell of a plot drug..
