19+ months later...

So the most recent crafting revamp launched on July 21, 2014, a little over 19 months ago. In that time I've gotten my crafters to lvl 20 in their respective schools but have been stymied from crafting everything due to one tiny little problem.

Unless you had crafting maxed out prior to this revamp or made a Delta Recruit and were rewarded with Gumarre simply by getting to level one in any school, Gumarre is an extremely rare drop from the Academy Request R&D Assitance mission.

Sadly, I didn't have crafting maxed prior to the revamp and Delta Recruits came out long after I'd hit lvl 20 with my main crafters. So this meant that at least once every week I was throwing 1k Dilithium at that blasted mission hoping for Gumarre.

For 19 MONTHS!

Well, no more. Today I finally got Gumarre on my crafter that needed him to be able to craft the Aegis set. Sure, there may be better sets out there and they aren't overly expensive to buy off the exchange, but the whole point of this was to be able to craft this stuff for myself and my alts, if I decided to. And now I can.

I'm just curious if anyone else has had similar problems getting Gumarre or if they just gave up.

p.s.

And go figure I'd get the little bugger on Feb 29th. :p

I've been running this assignment about once a week on each of my characters since shortly after the R&D system launched. I have 14 characters that were already around when the system launched, and two Delta Recruits that have been added since. About once a week I bring all of my characters to the Fleet Starbase to do commendation reports and run the Cadre assignments, including the R&D one. I took stock a few weeks ago of how many Gumarres each character had. Some only had the one from the old R&D system, while at least one other had acquired five additional ones. It really seems inconsistent. I would have expected my two Romulan characters, who can double-dip the cadre assignments, to have more Gumarres than my other characters, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Gumarre isn't the only reason to run that assignment. Prior to the Admiralty system, that was my main source for Very Rare R&D materials. There's also a good chance of getting a very rare component that would have cost you much more than the 1000 dilithium you spent on the mission to craft. I also collected over a hundred various white quality R&D Specialist DOFFs, which I put on the exchange and used a portion of that money to get a full set of the very rare Kobali R&D Specialist DOFFs. The Beam Weapon and Ground Weapon R&D Specialists can fetch quite a bit on the exchange, especially since the Admiralty system has launched (either because there are more materials out there, or people are playing that instead of the DOFF system). All in all I've found the R&D DOFF mission to be extremely lucrative.

Doffing was killed in 3 ways:
    1. No Romulan buff ones (only Fed and KDF get them), spawn rate is about 1:10.
    2. Cross-sector missions totally missing since about 1 year ago. Spawn for a fraction-of-second at sector borders. Example: marauding ones.
    3. Doffing missions giving XP have been eliminated or the XP gain radically reduced (like under 100 for those giving few thousand initially).

Yeah the change seems to happen at the old sector lines each time. You can still do them. You just have cruise through with your doff window open and when it snap changes... throw your ship in reverse, til they appear and stop on that spot. Bit of an annoyance to have to do it that way. But it works.
