People Play These?

Do people actually play foundry missions? I avoid them because all the missions I've wasted time in have awful bugs. You get physically stuck inside/under/behind objects or your crew does, objectives are generally not obtainable because it's impossible to click an item needed, etc. When you do have issues, there is absolutely no help you can get.

    Yes.

You can always send a message to author in question regarding X thing that makes you get stuck.

I'm sorry you have had a bad experience, but in my experience the majority of missions that I have played have worked fine, and I have tens of thousands of reviews on my own missions from people who have had no issues playing them. If you have issues with a specific mission, the authors' names are readily available and you can send an in-game mail, but be aware that some missions remain published long after the author has left the game.

If you know and can tell us some specific missions that are uncompletable, maybe we can help.

Hi FeordiLaGeorge. (good name ;) ) I agree with previous posters; I don't know which missions you've been playing, but I think you've been playing the wrong ones. I usually find missions by looking on this forum for mentions of ones that sound interesting, and I rarely run into ones with a game-breaking bug. Sorry you've got off to such a bad start.

If I were you, I'd start by trying some from the "Spotlight Missions" list; those have to be rated highly by players and approved by Cryptic's staff to get that status, so if they don't work for you, then you must have something wrong in STO itself and you need to contact Cryptic about it. And it also means they're certified to be really good missions to play.

I do know exactly what you mean about not being able to do anything about it if they're broken. The previous posters are right about sending an in-game mail to the author, but more often than not the author turns out to be no longer playing. One thing that sometimes saves the situation, though, is, if you get stuck, look through the reviews. A previous player may have posted the way to get past the obstacle, or else something that tips you off that it's a deliberate puzzle and there is a way round it.

Good luck, I hope you give the Foundry another try because there are some great missions in there!

The foundry provides a little change now and again, a very good thing indeed.

There are some really good stories and authors out there

It has been awhile since I played any since I got burned on more than one occasion, decided to pass them up. Perhaps I will take another look at some.

      Thanks for your input.

I'm a big fan of the foundry but even I have to admit I've got stuck on a few missions. Especially when they have you interact with objects on a space map. It's better to have the player interact with a large invisible object than actually interact with a ship or other asset. The hit detection is just too flawed.

also, objectives you can't scan for that aren't on the flat plane are awkward.

I can tell you as an author, if a player got stuck in one of my missions, I would want to know about it. not everyone plays a mission the same way, so being as detailed as possible about how you became stuck is key. Things like the instructions not being clear enough. Maybe the spawn point is too close to a wall. Maybe you did something in an order I didn't expect leaving the progression broken. There are so many scenarios I never even conceive of when I'm building a mission, that I rely on players to let me know when something is going wrong.

My goal is always to allow as many players as possible to have an enjoyable experience.

Space Reach Markers are the worst!!!

I tend to use a satellite or a ship with a visible animation; leaking ship for example, or make the reach marker quite large.

Non-objective reach markers though can be tricky if they have triggers (pop-up messages). It took me ages to get mobs and re-spawn points at the right altitude when I used facility 4028.

Anyone know a better way to position objects on baked maps with multiple levels like that that doesn't involve trial and error?

As a rule of thumb personally: I use a map wide exit point to avoid having a person try to pick u where they left off but being blocked by an object that's not visible at first.

Map wide exit points are something I do now. A few times I have got stuck in missions because no matter how close I got to a space object I couldn't interact with it.

Zionus0 we haves the 4029 facility map? Space? Or just interior?
    • zionus0zionus0 Member Posts: 395 Arc User
The Inside only, but you could probably make something similar to the outside using a large asteroid, and position an asteroid base.

Here is a list I made. Twenty five KDF Foundry Missions in no particular order. These were selected for their story and "Klingon-ness". Since some of the best Star Trek episodes have a large amount of humor in them, the list is slightly skewed towards those Foundry missions which also feature humor. I was surprised how many are or have been Spotlight Missions when I began looking back for missions to put in the list.

The best Foundry Missions are those created by Star Trek fans for other Star Trek fans. I probably spend more time playing Foundry Missions in between Featured Events than I do anything else. Decent loot. Dilithium. Specialization Points. And no repeating the same mission over and over again. What more could a true warrior ask for? I hope you enjoy these as much as I have.

Without further preamble or hype, here is the list.

      "Crouching Ty'Gkor Hidden Demon"
      "Devil's Devout"
      "Federation Desperation"
      "Future Shock"
      "Grapok In The General's Lung"
      "HA01 - Stolen Property"
      "Hero of the Empire"
      "Honor of Ferasa"
      "Honor of the Empire"
      "Honor of Orions"
      "Infiltration Point"
      "Into the Nightmare"
      "Krios Falling"
      "Raktajino In A Jar"
      "Stray Dogs"
      "Tempus Fugit"
      "Terrors of the Past"
      "The Chimes At Midnight"
      "The Computer's Son"
"The Fire In Which We Burn"
      "The Honor Of Profit"
      "The Hunter Killer"
      "The Prisoner"
      "Time The Enemy"
      "Time Will Tell"
      "Talking to Old Soldiers"
      "Diplomacy in the Gamma Quadrant"
      "Vulture Wheel"
