DEVS: leech or engineering power consoles...

beameddownbeameddown Member Posts: 1,215 Arc User
SO

we all love the leech console,

those that have been living under a rock, I am referring to the Universal Console: Plasmonic Leech Console

70mil off the exchange (Christ, I remember when it was 300k LOL)

any who..

WE HAVE, these silly engineering consoles such as:

injector assembly: +like 5 engine power
field emitters: + like 5 shield power
booster modulator: + like 5 auxiliary power
plasma distribution manifold: + like 5 weapon power

...
that's 4 engineering consoles..
4 WORTHLESS consoles that are in the game that NO ONE RUNS IF THEY HAVE A BRAIN

the FACT that we made it to 2016... and these stupid consoles are still in the game as is? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anyways,

what I purpose is that these console get re-purposed

craftable,
ACT exactly like the leech console for bonus power to the user (BUT with ZERO drain to the target)
and...
+5 bonus cap to whatever subsystem they are tied to

SO before the diehard market trolls jump in, lets face facts- the leech console is now CLEARLY out of the range of the casual and noob gamer, FACT

AND

lets not forget what the PURPOSE of the leech console was originally intended to do, and that was enhance drain builds...
I know-
I can already hear you laughing from here, "drain builds?!? LOL OMFG!" yup and yup, I am right there with you:P

but that's the facts, leech was ment to be a console for dedicated drain builds, its personal effect is what everyone bought it for, not its targeted effect

that's why the price is 70mil, that's why any noob actually interested in a drain build cant afford it, and WHY we have underdeveloped ENGINEERING consoles (4) that server ZERO purpose in the game

follow me here for a second.. for the sake of the noobs AND yourself..

what if:
JUST IF

you could have a eng console that YOU COULD CRAFT, that would add EXACTLY the same effect as leech? WHAT IF on top of that it could add +5 to a subsystem that your interested in pumping up?

I mean, who the hell cares about the drain on target really if your not a drain boat right? that's a small concession right?

DEVS

POPULATATION

fellow sto players

cant we do just this ONE THING for the sake of the noobs?

AND get a EVEN BETTER VERSION of the leech in the process?

honestly, the only folks I see against this is the exchange trolls... pushing their contribution to the game onto other players by leeching off the purchasing power of those that swipe a credit card

for the devs? for cryptic?

THINK:
they HAVE (us players) to spend dil to upgrade it, us to spend ec, mats, etc to upgrade it

its a solid money sink

a good one-

the klinks get the leech CHEAP via the C-ship, that a untapped market of folks to REBUY the same effect basically.. BUT with the bonus power system cap

EVEN IF you want to keep the leech console as top dog of bonus power drawn from targets via flow skill.. THE FACT that it could it +5 higher cap on a subsystem is going to draw lines in the sand for the folks to get excited about

all im saying is:

injector assembly, field emitters, booster modulator, and plasma distribution manifold ARE COOL NAMES for consoles, they DESERVE to have a solid effect in the game

and right now?

they do nothing- NO ONE uses them, NO ONE buys them, NO ONE would bother with them that plays this game period

leech console? it had its day, its now beyond what any noob player could grab (90%) with the BULK of us that grabbed it up back years ago cross faction

and with so many players grabbing it up for its personal effect vs its TARGETS effect we have see drain builds suffer as a result.. those that want to try out a drain build? HUGE COST for the one console that makes the most sense to equip

please trendy
please folks

lets get these engineering consoles effective again
lets get the leech console in the hands of folks that want to try out drain builds

and lets pull a little cash out of the pockets of the exchange trolls in the process while creating a ec-dil sink that ALL players in this game are capable of doing with a little sweat and hard work:)

thoughts?

So... you're asking for a more easily available, upgradable version of the Leech or are these consoles only augmenting associated subsystems?

In theory yes. However... there might be backlash from the KDF players because the Leech is being made obsolete by these craftable consoles, thus devaluing it. They already raised hell when it was made available to Feds, even with a finite supply over the KDF's natural infinite as long as you have the ship it came off of supply.

I think it would see the most use from Romulans though because of their inherrant lower power levels if somehow it did come.

While I do agree that those engineering consoles are absolute junk, doing what you are proposing is going to far. I think it would be better to have a flat out bonus, like they are now, only way higher. I'm not sure what power level I would use them at, but I'm sure it would be over +25.

Looking at a budget build (because space poor) you could add say +30 weapon power or bring up a subsystem above 75 for the [AMP] mod bonus and you have a spare console slot (no leech). If the bonus was high enough and you could get mods on them like +some to max power or +power transfer at UR or epic, they would be worth looking at even on serious build. There would also be room for a +power to 2 subsystems at half value.

Basically, the +power consoles could add a new/different avenue for builds if they had a big enough bonus.

i think its a great idea.

on firing, gain +2 subsystem power/shot up to 20 energy (+drain skill of course like the leech, but without the drain on enemies)

and enhance 1 subsystem power by 5 maxpower.

could name this one like "redundant (weapon),engine, auxiliary, shield circuity" or sth like that. i wouldnt mind that one.
(though im not sure if we will see a weapon +5max one, cause basically, if there IS one, noone will use the other ones at all ^^)
other solution would be, making the +5max a modifier, so its random.

so the basic circuity is "gives you 2weaponpower per firing" up to 20 max +%drain skill) and the modifiers would be [wpn] [eng] [shd] and [aux] +5 max

the techbabble behind it could be, that all those systems (engines, aux, shields) are redundantly redirected through weaponrelays and so power is safed that is then spare for other subsystems. i think the defiant had those for enhancing their weapons, beeing rerouted through engine plasma circuits. like, the other way round.

i feel kind of strange in those chars on my acc, that werent able to get the plasmo anymore. its like running around naked, though i know its not that big difference at all.

If the leech was craftable then there would be ZERO reason to buy it from the store. So what your saying to cryptic is "Please give up your sales so I can get a cheap Leech." That's not going to happen.

Now as for your talking about the other Engineering consoles. Yes I absolutely agree with you they are one percent above useless right now. Not just the ones you mentioned but all of them.all cold a boost.

I like the idea of it, though I'm inclined to say that they should be limited to boosting their chosen subsytem, whith the cap increase.

Unlike a lot of people, I'm not DPS centric. I actually ENJOY a running battle where I can use more than just tac skills. Sure I got a Leech on my Fed main, but not on every ship. Mostly just the cruisers to help counter some of the drain from my own weapons.

I can see where you're coming from, but I also can see potential downsides to it. A: It would cut into the sales of the ship that comes with the Leech. B: forum firestorm.

Like I said, it is good in theory. In practice... probably a mixed bag.

I think maybe it would be alright if the consoles only boost the subsystem that they're for the same way that the leach does. For example, if you have the one that boosts shield power, when you damage an enemy ship your shield subsystem power goes up. I think just being a craft-able version of the leach, but better, isn't the way to go.

    One thing though...

How would these consoles interact with Leach?

it would really TRIBBLE of those who bought the ship to get the console on the KDF side...
I think a more realistic answer would be make them craftable, and add [shld][wep][turn][Aux] modifiers, and instead of a flat +5 start out at 5, then 7,8,9, 10 boost not only to the function of the console, but to the modifier as well. whoul wouldn't want a plasma manifold that boosted weapons by +20, shields +10 turn +10 and aux +10 (for epic)

Alright - cutting out the "salesman's fluff" you're tossing around here so thickly:

You want to "change" the "standard" +x power consoles (which give what, +5 power at Mk XIV Epic) with consoles that "scale with the firing of weapons" up to +20 power per console?

And, because your proposed consoles only give +power to one subsystem while Leech gives it to all 4, you're proposing to add +Cap to these consoles?

Ahem. I'm gonna say "file this straight to OP".

    Reasons?
    1. +Cap only shows up on warp cores.
    2. Players will stack +weapon or +aux editions primarily.
    3. Players will stack these to maximum limits
    4. Seriously allows Romulans to "avoid" their power deficit issues.
    5. Is not factoring in flow caps like the original leech does
    6. With a "baseline" 6 FCs and a "moderate" flow cap bonuses from sets, I "average" +15 power on my 4x beam weapon Sci ship. This makes your proposal "more powerful" than a leech.

Thusly, I fire off a counter-proposal. Increase these +power consoles so they give +10 at Mk XIV epic. No stacking limit other than the number of consoles slottable. Nothing else - no scaling effect, no +cap, nothing but 10 points - tops - of raw power.

    <added in edit>
Oh, you cite the "scarcity" of these on the market as a price-influencer? Well, we're about to have a "last chance" lockbox event, with the dispensation of further Tal Shiar Lockboxes. Go ahead, nab yourself some keys, and go to town on the handfuls of free Tal'Shiar Lockboxes you nab and try to get a leech for a lot cheaper than the exchange rates...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

PLasmonic Leech is only out of touch for players that only play fed and do not have much EC. For KDF and Rom/KDF you only have to buy a 1000 Zen ship. I have it on all my KDF and KDF/Roms. For my Fed chars it is indeed out of reach. Can I not play these characters? Certainly not. I see no disbalance in the situation. Nothing more than one faction has something, the other don't have. It is a core principle in RPG games.

Your further suggestion to remove/replace those enginering consoles with +X to a subsytem I fully support. Combine it or make it into a modifier.
