Reputation object that are unusable

ayexeyenayexeyen Member Posts: 229 Arc User
Hi everybody,

recently I did a mistake in taking a reputation object, probably the devs will not help me with this
(but still I hope that, if one see this tread, he will help) but my mistake made me think about several
objects that are available on the reputations.
Let's take for instance the iconian reputation.
What's the purpose of offering to a tactical character a research/fabrication kit module?
What about offering a singularity core to a not romulan republic character, what's the purpose of it?
These objects are unusable by some characters and I think they should not be offered in the reputations.
There are several other cases similar to the ones that I just explained.
These object are, in my opinion, misleading for the players and could bring newbies or inattentive players
to waste their resources.

I reckon they're just keeping all their bases covered. I reckon there's also a tac kit module and a warp core on the same list you're complaining about. But they shouldn't leave out engineers, scientists, and warbirds from the rep goodies.

Maybe I didn't explained myself or I don't understand your message.
I am not saying not to offer an fabrication module to an engineers, or a research module to a scientist character.
Everybody should get what they deserve.
But offering a tactical module to a sci or a fabrication module to a tact or a research module to an eng, make no sense.
None of the previous example will ever work.
For the non-romulan character instead they should not offer the singularity core since these characters will never be able
to use them. Viceversa, romulan should be able to get singularity core and warp core (since they could in theory get
a warp core ship from the affiliated faction).

    Three simple letters "RNG"

RNG-demigod doesn't care what species you are, what Faction you are, if you are a TAC, ENG, or SCI.

All it cares about is you doing a certain amount of damage and hitting a certain point. Once that point is hit, it goes to work and spits out a string of numbers that equates to a specific item, and it drops.

I've seen sequential Crit hits (space) above 30k and when the ship dies.. I get a shield battery. I've watched my pets take out a target and all I do is keep my pets alive, not firing a shot, and when the ship dies, a VR Covariant Shield drops.

So.. getting all the useless vendor TRIBBLE; singularities on my non-rom toons, ENG/SCI kits or modules on my TAC's, just equates to extra EC in the bank..

RNG is just that.. Random; and not partial to the player...

Okay, I have tried re-reading the OP numerous times, even tried reading it backwards and for the life of me, I can not figure out how the random number generator affecting the loot drops during combat has anything at all to do with what equipment is offered to players via the rep projects.......

As for my particular train of thought in regards to what I think) the OP was talking about.

I am quite sure that it would be possible for the developers to code the game so that equipment lists will show only the equipment specific to/usable by your character. However, I don't think that people accidentally buying stuff they can't use is a common enough occurence to justify the time and expense it would take to do so. Go to any vendor in any location in the game and it shows you everything they have for sale, not just the stuff you can use. It is left up to you, the buyer, to not buy something you can't use. Why should the rep store be any different.

While I do feel your pain at having used up a boat load of rep points accidentally buying something you couldn't use, mistakes can and do happen and it is not the developers responsibility to reprogram the game to try and make sure people can't make mistakes. People are much, much better at managing to make mistakes than even the smartest programmer is at trying to anticipate and prevent them from doing so.

DIscliamer: This next part is not, not, not personally directed at anybody at all and is not even meant to imply anything about anyone at all. It is a direct quote that perfectly fits my previous paragraph and I am not going to change the wording of a direct quote on the off chance that someone might get offended.
"Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better idiot-proof programs, and the Universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the Universe is winning."

As for those of us that play Romulans, while we might get neglected in other ways, we sometimes to have the best of both worlds. If I am going to be flying my T6 Scimitar class ship, I will need a singularity core, with it's associated Romulan unique "powers", however I also like flying my Bug ship, and my Voth ship, and my Krenim ship, all of which means I need a warp core. The poor Feds and Klingons will never know the fun that can be had playing with various singularity powers.

    LTS and loving it.

What the OP is saying is the Rep System projects list should be tailored to your char or your faction. So Engineers don't see the Tactical Kit Modules and non-Romulans don't see the Singularity Cores. To keep people from starting projects their char cannot use. It is a valid request. But reading the ToolTip should prevent this from happening anyway.

I can see why the OP would want this but there are so many other things which need a QoL pass in this game, I can only imagine this being done some day in the far future.

Yes, this still happens. I got a few kit modules from the summer even store and didn't realize the 'bound to character' note applies before you even equip the items. I'm used to items binding when you equip, and inability to purchase an item if your toon cannot use it but this new 'bind on purchase even if you cannot use the item' is just dishonest.

@arionisa - offtopic I see you're a big Andorian ship fan. I got an andorian escort myself. Mail me ingame and maybe give me a hand in making it a viable ship via some build. @casualsto. Thanks and cheers!
Ontopic - The issue has been solved. You also need to read before purchasing stuff. Always DOUBLE READ.

@casualsto I have no special build. I just threw the best phaser cannons I had from missions/rep stuff on the front, with some Fleet Andorian phaser turrets on the rear. Quantum phase set for the bonus, Fleet vulnerability consoles (one each as my crit chance isn't that high). Then I randomly throw other consoles in there to play around, like the protomatter one as my Glascanon needs all the healing it can get, and of course the consoles that came with the ships for the wing cannon stuff. One of these days I'll get around to really setting her up good, but when I do I'll probably just ask one of my fleet mates who flies the Kumari for his build as he's really good at pumping high DPS numbers. Me, I just fly it cause it's a fun ship to fly and all those cannons blasting at a group of enemies is a truly wonderful sight.
