Is Cryptic really going to make us wait till september?
... for what, exactly?
This! ^^^^
What exactly is happening in September? My first guess is the next expansion, but I have no real idea. I'm guessing some dev said something or Twitter or Facebook? Would be nice if they were to share the news, since we haven't gotten any in a few weeks.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
September 8, 2016 is the 50th anniversary date of the airing of the first TOS episode.
Assuming they do something on that date, they should also mark their own milestone 20 days later. On September 28th, this game will have been officially live longer than any Star Trek series aired in its first run.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.

Because, like I said, it will be the day that STO surpasses the length of the original run (from premiere of Encounter at Farpoint to premiere of All Good Things) of TNG, the longest-running Trek series. That will be the day that this becomes the longest continuous Star Trek production of any kind. Coincidentally, it will also be the 29th anniversary of the date that Encounter at Farpoint premiered. September 28, 1987 to May 23, 1994 is 2430 days, when you factor in the 2 Leap Year days that happened during that period. February 2, 2010 (the official launch date of STO) to September 28, 2016 is 2431 days.
Edit: No can type none too good, 49th instead of 29th? Yikes!

Umm, this September will also be 50 years since STOS started
"Star Trek: The Original Series or "TOS"[Note 7] debuted in the United States on NBC on September 8, 1966."

When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
