old R&D components

I'm getting into the crafting system after many years. It's pretty straight-forward I think. I do have lots of R&D items from years ago, everything from common mineral samples and alien artifacts up to very rare. Are these items still used in the new R&D system? Is there a market for them otherwise? Thanks

You can right click on them and convert them to the newer components.

Don't know if there is a market for them. All I know is, anyone buying that stuff will either do that same conversion or jack up the price and re-post, because that is what the Exchange is all about.

Where is the "material assets store" which converts the resource?

it's a window that opens when you double click on one of the old mats.

When I right click and select "use" the material window opens. Not sure what to do from there as "sell" is not lit up. I assume I buy common crafting materials and after gaining a number of them, say 18, I can buy tritanium or some such thing. Is this a 1-1 conversion regardless of what the old common mat is? Do I drag the old mat onto the store? Doesn't seem to have converting instructions other than "target self" not sure what that means. Please advise.

The System determines what item and the quanity of that item that you receive on 'sale'/conversion.

I seem to recall it was like Voodoo when I first did it.

So I'm seeing the numbers in the store are codes for resources. For example 255 is Encoded Data. I'm not sure what I do now. Are there selectors for Encoded Data such as a highlight or checkbox? When I hit "buy"
it asks me how many but not what type if that makes sense. Do I enter the code number on the sell tab or drag the resource any where to select it? Still a bit confused. Sorry.

I'm sure a lot of this type of info was sorted out in discussion links years ago when I was away. Is there a good link that describes the conversion process step by step? Thanks

It's also possible that this conversion system was broken somewhere along the line, and nobody noticed or cared...

You don't really choose what to buy in the conversion store, you just convert stuff. try doing it with 1 item and see what you get.

Just click sell what you get is random so you can not pick what you want.

One thing I was never clear on is whether converting an entire stack at once yields different results than doing smaller batches, or even one by one.

Not in my experience. I think it is nothing more than making it faster.

It was mentioned to click on "sell". There is a Sell tab at the top but it doesn't light up. Only the Buy tab is working and I'm not sure how that converts existing resources.

What you're doing is buying the new mats for the cost of the old. It is just a one-to-one conversion, but setup as a transaction.

Ok guys. Finally sorted this one out. Here is step by step conversion for those interested. The conversion store apparently reads the resources you have in your account, specifically in the bank. You want to right click a stack of resources and select "use" to open the store. You can NOT access the store from the bank, only from inventory so move a resource stack to your inventory and select "use" with a right click. The old resources will appear at the bottom of the store and the quantity of those resources. At the top of the store, each stack is represented by a generic box. Double click the box and type in the number of reserouces in the stack to convert them. If you have 85 genetic material, type in 85 in the quantity box. Your entire stack is converted and your old resource stack will appear as zero. You now have shiny new R&D resources in your R&D inventory tab. You can't control what resources you get. Pretty simple. Thanks for everyone's input on this one.
