Double beam bank as a single

fovrelfovrel Member Posts: 1,448 Arc User
Wouldn't it be cool if we could use the double beam bank as a single one? So we have a weapon that has a 90 firing arc as a double beam bank and a 250 arc as a single one. This concept can also be used with cannons of course. It is a combo weapon, two into one. It could be limited to one on each ship for, eh ? eh, reasons, I think.

If I could rearrange the weapon system in STO I'd have what you describe as "beam bank" or "beam emitter" which is the galactic default weapon of choice. Double beam bank as it is and beam arrays would be heavy weapons (akin to DHCs) and limited to the large starfleet cruisers (no other people has been shown using arrays, maybe roms but not sure). Cannons would work likewise but DHCs would be limited for Klingon use and only slotable on large cruisers (doesn't make sense slotting that on a B'Rel...) while romulans would have single heavy cannons (muzzle mounted D'D weapon of choice).

The D'D's main weapon functioned as a beam sometimes, not just as a cannon.
Would the duel beam emmiter of the Constitution count as the same type of fixed beam array as the Galor, D'D, Vor'Cha etc.?

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

You mean like beam arrays that we already have?

I think he means that it fires both beams when the target is in the fore arc, and changes over to one, presumably at greatly reduced damage, when it goes to either side. I think if we were looking for ways to make dbb's more useful/powerful, it would be a great idea. Buffing something that is already super popular, on the other hand...

This is exactly what I mean. It would be an enormous buff for frontal fire power. Further it would condemn the single beams to the aft slots, hence I mention a limitation of one per ship.

The issue with changing the functionality for dbbs to what you're suggesting is you would essentially invalidate the need for people to use legit arrays. if people could load dbbs and just fire off more damage when they point forward why would they use arrays? Yes I know there are certain cruisers that would still not be able to take full advantage of this, but either way you go I don't think this is needed. If it ain't broke why fix it. I think this is getting a bit far out there when it comes to weapons. that's just my take on it.

You're kidding right? Limit cannons to the ships which can't any make good use of them?
