Inconsistency in Command Battlecruiser ability charge times.

So Earlier in the year I purchased a Geneva Class Command Battle Cruiser, On Cyber Monday I purchased the Concorde Class. Just a few days away from finishing saving for a Presidio Class.

I noticed something odd though. The description for the Command abilities say that you charge them whenever you or an ally uses a bridge officer ability. However, the Geneva seemed to charge whenever I was taking damage. I'd go into crystalline Catastrophe and use three or more command abilities tanking over the course of the STF.

This is not the case with the Concorde. It would seem to work closer to the description. I don't appear to charge the abilities from taking damage. As a result I manage to use one or at most two command abilities in the course of a crystalline Catastrophe. And this is despite the fact that since buying the concorde, I now have the three piece set bonus from the consoles which reduces the recharge time of command abilities.

Can anyone explain this?

I believe there is a maximum range for charging those abilities? Perhaps your team mates were often further away during the second mission? Also, Command abilities make the Command Cruiser abilities charge faster compared to standard (like sci or engineering) abilities. That may cause a difference as well.

I have only flown the Presidio and the Geneva, but I haven't noticed any difference in rate that I gain inspiration between the two ships. I'll admit, I never really paid super close attention to it, but in my experience the rate of gain was the same. I never fly the Concorde, so I don't know about that one.

If I get time later today, I'll take my Geneva back out and see if I notice any difference.

With the last ship sale, black friday/cyber monday I bought the Deihu, Romulan command battle ship, science version. I am really happy with the ship but the commands features are for me just a side gimmick. In fact it is a rage system. You have to build up a resource to use a power. So it is not ready. It is also not clear when it is ready. As such it is pretty hard to impossible to use the abillities at the right moment. Perhaps I am missing something here, but I use the cooldown reduction, just when it is ready just to keep things simple.

Lol, if the devs would say, we will remove these feature, because overall gameplay will improve, I would say, do it right away.

If inspiration isn't building fast enough for you, use more boff abilities.

That's not my question at all.

When flying the Geneva (with only 2 set bonus) being attacked seemed to charge my command abilities.

When flying the Concorde (With 3 set bonus) Only my own abilities seem to charge the command abilities.

Does each class of Battlecruiser have a specific way to charge it's abilities? Is that intended? Bugged?

    No.

All Command Battlecruisers build Inspiration the exact same way. Inspiration is generated from using Bridge Officer Abiliites (any, not just command.)

Originally, the mechanic also activated when people around you used Bridge Officer Abilities, but that mechanic turned out to be highly detrimental to server performance and it was removed. Players were compensated with an increase to the amount generated by your own abilities.

The Inspiration Mechanic functions exactly the same on all of the Command ships. I'm not sure what it is that makes you think that getting attacked is generating Inspiration on your Geneva, but that is not how the mechanic normally functions. I fly the Presidio most of the time, but I do also occasionally use the Geneva. I have noticed no real difference at all Inspiration between the two ships.

If you wish to test this, take your Geneva to somewhere like Argala. Start the mission, and just sit there and let people shoot at you. Don't use any powers, just sit there and take it. You should not see your inspiration meter increase. If you do, then something might be wrong. Mine doesn't fill unless I start activating powers.

Okay I found a guy who wanted to test his pvp build so I took out my Geneva class and let him kick the TRIBBLE out of me for three rounds.

Fast forward to about halfway through and watch the command ability meter fill up when he swoops in to make his alpha strike.

Without watching the video: I wonder if any traits or equipment passives might "accidentally" be triggering the Inspiration meter, too.

Edit: Though in the video, you definitely activate BOFF abilities, so that the Inspiration meter is moving is no surprise.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.

I figured it out! It's Feedback Pulse! I have feedback pulse set on my Geneva but not my Concorde.

Feedback Pulse has some weird interaction with the Command points. Perhaps every proc counts as using a bridge officer ability....

Whatever the reason, using feedback pulse turns the resource into more of a rage meter that charges whenever somebody hits you while it's active.

Watch what happens when he hits me while feedback pulse is active. My Command point bar just shoots up.
