For the fourth year running, I have been convinced NOT to pursue the "special" winter ship, because the manner in which you must acquire said ship either requires you to spend gobs of realbucks on lockboxes and therefore lobi crystals, or endure the annual suffering that is "The Fastest Game on Ice".
Protip: if you are running a free-to-play MMO on servers proven time and time again to have bad bad bad rubberbanding problems, it's a supremely bad idea to tie a special, limited-time acquisition to minigames involving narrow spaces and time limits. I've worn my spirit down to blood and bone fighting even to get my character to the end of the race, let alone a damn win without SERVER NOT RESPONDING and a sudden transposition to the middle of god-knows-where, told I lost the race for leaving the track, probably stood no chance of winning because that jerk of a snow targ doesn't rubberband like I do, and then I have to carry my own self through the everything-looks-the-damn-same forest to find the race official (not the race coordinator like I keep doing every single time. Why are there two NPCs for this quest? Make the race coordinator the race official!!!!)
TL;DR My Star Trek Christmas is ruined because the devs want me to chase a carrot on a stick for their pretty prize but the suits won't chip in for a f*king stable server. I'm going back to maxing out my specializations. Humbug.

I've run the race for seven days so far without any losses, though I did get a LOT of practice last year grinding out all 3 ships (80+ runs).
its virtually impossible to fail the summer or anniversary ship missions yet the winter mission is like you only have to blink and you fail, and this is totally fair and fine with everyone else.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
If the winter race is from another category than the summer race in difficulty, more difficult, it means more players have summer ships. I am curious if this is the case. I doubt. Anyway Cryptic can give the answer, but also I doubt they will. You can make a poll. At least it could give a slight indication.
Personally, I think both events are easy. Perhaps the winter race is more difficult, because as I remember I took some lessons to play it. I went to the track and ran it, learned to turn and to stay on the track. I did the same for the PvP race and practice pays off. This year I have already won it three times.
BTW. The summer PvP race is another thing. I only win it when I am the only competitor. Reasons? I have the cheap slow board and when there are a lot of competitors, I do get performance issues, map and track are not loading fast enough, so I go in the blind.
The anniversary Omega mini game didn't work for me too, Never could get a high score. What can I say? Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't.
And while I am sorry you are suffering lag, I'm fairly sure that must be on your end, Cause I have yet to experience any.
