Nameing bound items

During a certain mission, we have to swap out the away teams armor for EVA suits. Which means we have to remember which armor goes where when we switch back. It's nitpicky, but I believe this to be a problem. A solution? The ability to rename character bound items. Who's armor is this? Oh, it has their name on it! What dry docked ship does this belong to? The escort!

What do ya'll think?

No offense, but, that's a 2 minute 'problem', because that's literally how long it takes to swap out EVA suits for your away team.

Now, I don't know how complex it is, but adding boff-gear linkages in the database, and it would be a massive amount of linkages across all accounts... would slow down maintenance, and would probably cause unforseen problems during shard uptime. I'm no expert, but as far as I know, this is the case.

Even before the linking, It takes a lot more storage to have 10,000 unique name strings instead of a single shared one. But the massive increase in db lookups and not being able to cache the shared names will definitely not improve server performance.

OP, how much zen are you willing to pay to cover the lifetime server load? 100 zen per named item?

I did say it was nitpicky. And I know it would take up storage and processing space. It was just a pie-in-the-sky thought.

But if storage and processing weren't a problem, what do you think?

On further thought, I like the idea in the other thread better: give everyone an EV suit slot separate from the armor slot, with a toggle button to switch your own in case you want to use the EV suit outside of a hostile environment.

That might be almost as bad since it adds one item number to store per boff, even your parked or space-crew-only ones.
