playing other computer games during cool down periods

If you are a computer game player like me, you will move to another game during the cooldown periods. Are these serious players going to buy anything if they are them restricted in the play ? Not me, I simply go to another game. WHAT IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND THAT PLAYERS PLAY PLAYER FRIENDLY GAMES.

Its to prevent players from gaining things too fast, there are PLENTY of other things you could do in the game to pass the time. It's not their issue that all you do is play one thing and nothing else.

I don't play other games during cooldown periods. STO is full of fun content I play a lot, and thats a 100% serious statement. Vast improvement over other games I'm used to.

The time gated mini games like DoFFing only add to the appeal, providing a steady trickle of xp, rewards, and things to click over time, breaks up any monotony.

Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

I guess I'm not like you then :)

I have more than one character, and I find I don't have enough play time in the day to do all that I want to -- some characters sit neglected for weeks. I've never found the time gates to be a problem.

Seriously OP?? Are you say there isn't enough to do because of cooldowns. Considering there are many STF's (of which it is impossible to have them all on cooldown), lots of Doffing and Adm missions to queue, on top of running around the galaxy, mining, running an episode, Red Alerts et all, I'm surprised if I get a moment to breath, and that's just on my main (I have 8 toons atm, all active)! During a non-event period, I can get most of what needs doing done in around 2-3 hours. When an event such as MI or Crystal is on 4 hours+. Even on 1 toon now, there is enough to keep me going constantly. It beggars belief that people would AFK MI/CCA just so they can doff, for what would Starfleet/KDF/Romulan High Command do if one of their Captains thought doing staff assignments was more important than fending off their mortal enemies!?
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

First off, While i do agree the amount of grind is stupid, it is nothing new to MMOs

secondly, as said, IF you are a REAL gamer, you will realize STO is not just about the events, because i mean really, if you are only playing the game to do teh events....why are you playing the game to begin with?

indeed, I have even fell behind in completing the story mission on all of my characters, I just haven't got the time to do all the stuff I want to do in the game every day.
especially at this time of year when there is a major event running, everything else in the game gets left in favour of one more snowball fight.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

I made 9 toons to circumvent any CD times on missions which take longer than 3,3 minutes. So I only have to be careful with ISA, CCA & NTTE. I also have a Dil refinement problem. :'(
