Hello, I am a new guy here and I love star trek and I grew up watching Next Generation and DS9 two of my favorite shows! I am wondering what is the easiest class to level that is fast and fun but does great DPS ? I am a former world of warcraft player.. Also I noticed you can pay monthly for this game but am not so sure if its worth it? Let me know via response ty peace.

Tactical officer fits what you're looking for, it's the easiest class to play, and the easiest with which to get great DPS.
If you want the benefits of Subscription membership, as a new player, you're better off choosing Lifetime; very pricey, up front, but quite a few perks, including free ships and a 500 Zen stipend every month.

Definitely Tactical Captain for what you described.

As for subscription, I would do as others said and subscribe for one month and then cancel. When you subscribe for that month, you get access to an account shared bank, you get your inventory extended and the most useful to you will be that you get a free captain re-spec token every 10 levels. In this game you have to pay for tokens to respec but you will get them for free for the entire month of your subscription. This lets you just put points wherever you want when leveling without having to worry. Once you hit level 50 you can decide how you want your 'final build' to look and change to that for free.

After one month, cancel and you will keep the bank unlocks and any tokens you earned. When you subscribe you'll get 500 Zen as well, save that and use it once your month is over to purchase the EC Cap unlock. This unlock will raise the cap on the amount of money you will have. This is a permanent, account wide upgrade that will apply to any characters you make going forward.

Oh and lastly.. Welcome to Star Trek Online! :)

I'm @comrademoco be happy to help ya out if you need help.

If you plan on playing STO for years to come... then the monthly is not really worth it... just go with the Lifetime $299 once and you get all the perks, but that's if you plan on playing STO for a long time, and if you really like it. :)

tactical captain should be your choice either with a cruiser or an escort...or a hybrid cruiser/escort (destroyer) of those 2. Subscribe for a month. you get a lot of perks for only subscribing once. After that you'd need to really, really like this game to keep subscribing or even get a lifetime. But subscribing once, especially while leveling up gives great benefits.

So now going down from the tactical, which faction?

    Federation
    Romulan
Or Klingon? I logged into the character selection screen and was browsing but can't make up my mind..

romulan...most powerfull, but honestly, all 3 have their merits. Klingons are a little bit left behind and under represented compared to fed, so I'd say get a romulan aligned with fed. But hey, you have 3 free char slots anyway.

Well op I have been playing this game off an on for a long time. Subscription of any kind is not worth it, the reason for this is simple. At the end game your going to have to cough up 30 bucks per end game ship, starting at tier five. Now you can grind the heck out of dilithium via duty missions and play the exchange between dilithium and zen, but it would be a long long endless grind. Think stv from wow in classic and then multiply that x 10 you get the idea. Romulan, Klingon, and Federation all have perks and downsides. In this category play what is fun to you. The federation story is not bad but very high moral stuff. The Klingon story has come a long way since the early days. Romulan story extremely fun but tedious if your flying a cruiser and dealing with the Elachi.

As for ships you have some choices open to you. Tactical officer in a escort, will always give you the most dps, but you really have to get good at it. In end game content from the Delta quadrant to the Iconian war, their is a ton of enemy burst damage. You will soon discover, escorts have the damage, but they can also implode suddenly without warning. This happens when a great deal of instant burst damage is suddenly sent your way. You do not always see it coming. So keep that in mind. Engineering and Science I cant really say. I have heard with the right set up both of those can deal a great deal of damage, but I do not know that first hand.

    I hope this helps.

One should ultimately explore all factions and all character classes, but for the start, a Tac Fed might be the easiest. A familiar faction and a damage-focused class.
Tac Rom might be strongest in the long run.

If you're a DS9 fan, you will eventually want to play both Klingon and Federation, otherwise you won't have access to the two hero ships of the Dominion War, the B'Rel and the Defiant. ;)

well, the character stuff has been answered many times so i will just say my personal input on the sub.

As said before, i would recomend subbing for a month to get the extra goodies like account bank. after that though, IMO, n0t worth it unless you go for the lifetime sub, if you think you will be playing this for a while.

For $300 (When not on sale), you get all the normal sub stuff, EVERY vet reward right away, which includes a nice ship, 1 for every faction, and tons of even more goodies, like character slots, and ship slots, and the like, and after about 2 years, it costs less. and mind you, it being near christmas, it will possibly go on sale for even less soon.

(sorry for any spelling/grammar errors, typing this at about 4 in the morning is likely not the best idea.)
