Scheduled Downtime

Wouldn't it be better if you guys just went ahead and lowered expectations from the get go? Now, I know someone will make an argument that "you could just go this and this...", but that's not really the problem. The problem is that I think most people like to have their day planned out to a degree, and so you're thinking, "okay, I have this day off, they're doing maintenance so I'll do this and this in the meantime. If Cryptic would just go ahead and give longer assessments or for that matter start the whole affair earlier so that it's not only a western US biased time period, it could work better for everyone and not let people down.

I understand that stuff happens, but when it happens this often, it's time to just assume that the allotment that you give for the maintenance to take place is obviously not enough. I mean, if this is a workable excuse then can I just start buying STO lock box keys on an IOU basis and then just say that I'm doing extended maintenance on my wallet until I pay up? That may seem far-fetched, but in most situations, if you're consistently late, then it is frowned upon. The least you can do is be up front about how things are going to roll or lower expectations.

I love generalizations about how maintenances are consistently longer than anticipated.

Then I check back on the schedule and see all the maintenances that were done earlier than we reported. Sure, some go over due to things that we find, but for the most part they tend to go on time. Huh.

Perhaps it's the times that they do go over, or DDOS'es that stick out most in our mind because they go against the norm. It's easier to remember those than the times you simply logged back in because maintenance had completed at roughly 8:45 PST/PDT/Western/WhateverTimezoneWitchcraft

Dammit, this again. You know? I think I'm going to start keeping track of how many maintenance go into overtime, how many are on time and how many are done before time.
Logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end of it.

So it went overtime a bit. I did the same as you OP. Day off, did housework and chores. Maintenance went over, I cursed. But then I thought, "ah it happens, rather they take the time to fix it now than have pain in the TRIBBLE bugs released".
It's an inconvenience to be sure, but let's not forget that it's not done on purpose and also an inconvenience to the team working on a fix very quickly.
And as has also been stated before more than often servers are back online on time if not early, sometimes considerably, sometimes by a few minutes.
Today I get that allot of people were eager to fight the snorg but consider the rage here if he servers were allowed back up with major gremlins in the works.

"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
