I was a bit green last year and didn't really know what I was doing back then so I didn't take the ship grinding seriously. In fact, I didn't bother with the ship grind, I think I was concentrating on getting the breen warp core.....or something. I may have remembered wrong but did you have to WIN one of the races in order to get Qmendation? Or is it just participation only? I vague remember reading about it then go "I'm never going to win one of these races without all the fancy gears other people have" and gave up on it. Did I read wrong?

I'll be posting a tip thread in a few. The PvE race is doable even on a fresh lv 10.

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

I don't use the roll method. But I have to play again to remember how my "method" works.
Or maybe I just need to have davefenestrator explain. I think that is the basic of what I do.
Once you know the trick its easy.

Run forward. You start sliding if you make sudden turns, so choose straight lines for your sprinting to avoid wipe-outs.
When you come up to a bend, press your Jump key, and at the same time let go of the Forward key! When you land you'll be at a dead stop.
Turn to the new direction, and press the Forward + Sprint keys again to start moving.
Repeat steps 1-3 until you get to the end.
Protips:
Both the individual and PvP race tracks can be navigated with minimal turns. Cut down on jumping and stopping to maximize your sprinting.
For faster turning, you can actually face the new direction during the jump, while in the air. Shaves off a few milliseconds when you start sprinting, and could mean the difference between win and loss in PvP race.
In PvP race Bumping into globs of ice slows you down. Use the ones at turns to your advantage for turning without the Jump/stop trick, but be careful not to bump into them while sprinting on the straight lines, as that will slow you down as well.
If you have problems with the sliding and jumping and rolling:
Don't sprint, simply jog and cut some of the corners. Look down the track and try and make it as straight a path as possible. And you can take off several seconds early. When the countdown starts you can start with the forward button. You'll get a good head start and then jog. If you want to sprint at the end then fine, but it normally isnt necessary. The NPCs take all sorts of crazy long paths, so you just need to be in front of them. You don't need to smoke them, it isn't a timed race, just get across the finish first. Jogging saves A LOT of momentum. If you use the boots or sprint you'll slide and have to compensate. If you jog, you won't slide nearly as much.

I had planned on making a thread before this thread appeared. Also... wanted a title that screamed "Tips here!" for easy reference.

go on youtube and search "fastest game on ice" to find how to videos of the race.
don't fret if you fail the first time, you have infinite replays so you can keep at it until you get it right.
pity you missed last years ship its pretty awesome for a freebie, cant say if this years ship will be as good in combat though it does look impressive.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
that is one method though a very expensive one, lockboxs contain a random number of lobi I believe and there are a random number (2 - 6) of ship project tokens in the Q's token Package that cost 5 lobi each.
so if you get say 5 lobi in each lockbox and if unlucky could have to open as many as 500 Q packs to get the 1000 tokens you need for the ship it could require buying 100 keys to open the lockboxs to get enough lobi.
that works out at about $125 to get what is supposed to be a free ship.

Physical Conditioning passive ground trait from Tier 1 of Delta reputation does work in Winter Wonderland. It's a 5% run speed boost. Not much, but every little bit helps. You will have leave WW in order to slot the trait, and come back in.

Lobi is just in game currency, it holds no RL monetary value. Some people who see it in real money terms, in those cases they are most likely selling in game stuff for money on gold sites.
The video provided by @bubblegirl2015 shows you exactly how to do it. After 1 or 2 runs you'll be an expert and win every single time.
It's the easiest grind in the game.
Plus work out a route that uses the least turns, you can go in straight lines at at least 10 stretches on the track and you can even cut the last hairpin completly if you know where to run!
Seriously, the NPC shouldn't concern you. It cannot get past you when you just stay on the track because it moves on a set path and uses the longest possible route. You on the other claw have to familiarize yourself with the drift just a little bit, learn that rolling/dodging and jumping nullifies it's effect and try to test out the boundaries of the track (the indicators aren't the hard limit, you have some wiggle room which means you can sometimes jump right over the boundaries to cut corners).
