Arc client or Steam client for star trek online?

Which one is Better for downloading games? I had star trek online for steam but seems to be crashing and failing a lot so I am trying with arc client to see how I do. What do you prefer? Does Arc take up more memory than steam?

Well, I'm using the old school install ;)

Between ARC vs Steam, I would go with Steam since it has a very wide aspect to PC gaming. I have not extensively used ARC except to claim some code long ago (for the Khan outfit). But Steam OTOH has a huge library of games for you to browse/purchase with and not just limited to STO.

I'm trying ARC to see how the latency is for when I play STO honestly.. I am not really a fan of steam that much. I like steam but just an opinion though..

Just to play STO: neither. Use the direct launcher.

For "downloading games" there's only one right answer: Steam. Huge library with literally thousands of games.
The Arc selection is just the few games that PWE supports. That's like 20.

I use steam. Never had any issues with STO.

Never tried arc as I've not had any reason to.

I just shortcut directly to the application. No additional platform needed after the first install. If I had to choose between them though I'd go with Arc. It's "time played" counter isn't the first thing you see when launching the game. :P

Well, seems arc is meant for star trek online

For STO it makes no difference if you go to ARC or STEAM as you still end up with the same stand alone launcher and update in the same way. Neither is required once the game launcher is on the computer.

Direct DVD for installation, or Arc, then direct launch without 3rd party nonsense.

I've had problems with Steam interfering with joystick to keyboard/mouse emulation, and porting over the Arc install into Steam, and then back again resulted in some game bugs, forcing a complete reinstallation.

I run through Steam myself. Only have ARC for promo codes.

well I use steam, I can't find the original installer either way is up to you. I only log in to arc for the freebies and that it pretty much it, arc is the only software that is collecting dust in my computer.

I did have the stand alone install but switched to Steam around season 7/8 and it's ok. Lots of people have a problem with Steam, which is fair enough, each to their own I guess. Me personally, never had any issues with it. Good prices on Games when the sales are on, nice selection of Indie games and their Greenlight program (Kerbal Space Program FTW) plus it allows me to manage all my games from a single launcher so yeah, what's not to like.

    A few things..

Rather you download the game through Steam, Arc or Stand Alone makes no difference.. none.

All methods install the exact same game, same files, save everything. Between Steam and Arc, the only thing different is the Overlay. My personal preference is Steam.

You can download the game with either platform and play the game as a Stand Alone. You don't need the old 'stand alone installer.' When you download the game using Steam for example, it saves the install in Steam\SteamApps\Common\Star Trek Online.

You can run the game right out of that folder by running the .exe file. You don't need to launch Steam to play. Same thing with Arc, the game will run right out of the folder without launching Arc.

There is no difference in game install, it's all up to what overlay (if any) you prefer. The only benefit I have seen either way is that when buying Zen through Steam using the Wallet it has more purchase options like the $5 option.

The choice is yours, but it's the exact same game either way.
    Insert witty signature line here.

    Really? Nice.

Anyway, as people above me have said, Steam has thousands of games, while Arc only has PWE games. Also, as far as I know, you can get all those games on Steam too.

I only have Arc installed to redeem codes, and sometimes to buy Zen since the Steam Wallet integration breaks every once in a while.

oh yeah, I love KSP! Though I must say recent updates have made it far harder to play successfully. Re-entry is a screaming purple TRIBBLE these days :(

And I agree, Steam over ARC, if only because I trust Valve far, far more than PWE.

If your a Zen purchaser or promo code getter go with Arc it's their own platform and works best for those things anyway. If neither of those is the case doesn't really matter.

    ARC.

I like how i also get my news, events, and basically any dev blog post that goes up has a advertisement on the STO launcher. (Edit: STO launcher irrelevant to ARC and subject at hand as you'll get it regardless of game launch method.)

I still don't understand why people vehemently hate ARC.

I still don't understand why people vehemently hate ARC.

Because it's yet another extra program to install on my computer that serves no real purpose other than to advertise games I'm never going to play and therefore don't give a damn about. I have the same opinion of CBS' decision to make the new series exclusive to CBS All Access. All these launcher wars and streaming service wars are great for the publishing company but do a cow patty's worth of good for the consumer.
