Phantom w/o Intel BOff(s)?

My Tac has been flying the (Fleet) T5-U Defiant. The T6 Valiant seemed like the most direct upgrade that will fit my layout and BOff abilities. But I read numerous threads about how the Phantom is superior to the Valiant, so I bought it instead in yesterday's sale. I do not have any Intelligence BOffs, but if I did I see I'd have to choose between my current abilities and Intel abilities. Just looking at the list I'm not sure if losing my best Tac powers is worth it.

So did I make a mistake buying the Phantom?

The Phantom is amazing, one of the best escorts.

Trying using Overload Sub-System safeties, It's amazing for any build.

Surgical Strikes is a lot of fun if you have high [CRTD] weapons and there are a few other fun ones as well.

Train up an officer and try some of the Intel abilities. If you like them, you've expanded your horizons and have to decide what to keep and what to get rid of. Some of them are kinda fun. If you don't like them, go back to your old ways, knowing you have a nice escort with integrated cloak and a lance weapon.

If you are high intel spec you can craft the make-boff-intel manual, otherwise you can buy it on the exchange.

Evade target lock can be useful, also EM pulse probe and kinetic magnet.

Phantom is a beast.. both with beams or Cannons.

You have a Lt Commander Tactical as well as a Commander Tactical/Intel station.. you will not need to sacrifice anything to get intel abilities into the mix.

You can get white quality Intel Boffs from the vendor in ESD. You can also buy or craft a manual to train any of your current Boffs to have access to Intel abilities.

If you need help with a build, let us know what gear you use (beams/cannons) and what you're looking to do and I'm sure we can provide you with some guidance.

You did not make a mistake, the Phantom and the Pilot ships are the best Escorts you can get.

On a couple of my newer characters, I have a few that have Boffs trained on all three Specializations. If you have not unlocked the creation of Specialization Manuals from your Captain, get them on the Exchange and then train up your Boff that fits into that Seat.

Fill in the powers that you will need on that Boff through the Trainer, if you can create the Tier III Manuals do so, or get them from the Exchange.
