What ability fires 30 or so torpedoes at an enemy?

I've been doing a lot of the group missions lately, and one thing I noticed a couple of times was someone firing off an ungodly amount of torpedoes right at the start of a fight. I know the one lieutenant commander bridge officer skill fires multiple torpedoes, but for me, that's always been maybe five or so per target. But this ability I've been seeing lately is like firing an armada of torpedoes at an enemy, and I can't figure out how they're doing it. The other day, I was in the shuttle fight (where you can only use the level 1 ability for a bridge officer) and someone fired one of those massive torpedo onslaughts then, too.

So, what ability or combo are they using to do that?

    I would say I get the most out of gravimetric. neutronic and bio give a lot too but slightly less. Sometimes gravimetric gives like 20 or more as you describe. Often it does give much less. Not sure the reason for the difference. It's just torpedo spread 3.

    Here is from the wiki for TS3:

    Upgrades your next torpedo attack.
    Attacking up to five targets at once (5 clusters of 8 regular or 4 special torpedo).
    Fire a pattern of several torpedoes, dealing moderate targeted AoE damage.


    So it's actually 40 torpedoes max. But if you're using some other type of torpedo like plasma it's definitely not this many (not even 32 as this would seem to indicate).

    I think you're seeing torpedo spread against a large number of targets. I do this in shuttle events like atmospheric assault when first engaging a wave of incoming shuttles. You have all of those shuttles in your forward firing arc and you get four torps for up to three targets. It can look pretty impressive when the incoming shuttles are lined up and coming at you.

    I honestly don't know. Torp Spread does spit out a lot of torpedoes, but the only other thing I can think of is the Armitage Escort Carrier's Torpedo Point Defense, but that's bound to the Armitage class itself.

    Torp spread alone can do it, but if they're in a defiant, malem, kor(?) they have the console to launch an extra 8 quantum or plasma on top of that.

    Could it be the micromissile launcher console that comes on one of the Pilot escorts? Wouldn't account for the shuttle mission barrage though...

    I'm pretty sure it's Torpedo Spread 3 you are thinking of. I use a Mk14 grav torp and when I have a good cluster of enemies in a gravity well and fire my grav torp buffed by TS3 it's a crazy amount of torpedoes easily around 30 of em. To me it just looks like a glowing red cloud of em.

    Still doesn't entirely account for the TS1 shuttle barrage.

    Ferengi Rapid Fire Missiles tend to look quite crowded when you use Spread III, but are easily identified by the smoke trails. Can you at least tell us what colour they were?

    The Enhanced Biophoton Torp spits out a heck of a lot of torps too so that could be what's been seen here. But TS3 with a basic photon torp is a LOT of torps in one volley, it looks insane.

    I personally have a TS1 on my Delta Flyer and it puts out only 2 torps per target so that's only 6 in total I think? Maybe the point defense system?

    With that in mind it can also be the console for the adapted destroyer: Shrapnel Torpedo.

    It actually has 9x4 = 36 charges.​​
    This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

    Maybe they were using the Artimage?

    It has the point defense system which fires off a volley of 6 Photon Torpedoes up to 8 targets, and you can also use TS3 with w/e torpedo you have equipped and if your using photon, that's another 8 torpedoes per volley up to 5 targets.

    So your potentially firing off a grand total of 88 photon torpedoes if your firing off at the maximum number of targets both the torpedo point defense system and TS3 can offer.

    Maybe its ts with the romulan hyper plasma torpedo. That tosses em out nicely no matter what the level of the spread is.

    I smell command abilities... one of them grants everyone attacking your target an ungodly amount of THY. I've seen a Romulon plasma torpedo/ Vaadwaur Polaron build absolutely lay waste to borg tactical cubes.

    Not sure if it is still possible but if you run multiple torpedoes you can stack the torpedo abilities and fire them one after another.Used to run two spread3 on my B'rel and fire them off back to back.Was a beautiful site.

    No... Torp abilities have a shared cooldown, and at least 15 seconds of barrier between each activation.

    I know they do of 15seconds.But the buff lasts for 30.Used to be able to activate,wait for cooldown and activate second ability.Fire the torpedo and the next torpedo would also retain the second buff.Like I said not sure if it is still possible.

    They could also have two launchers and each one is powered with a spread, say TS2 and TS3, and both of them pop their spreads at the same time. Between combats, if running multiple copies of a power, it's quite easy to have 2 up at the same time on the same launcher, as bluemodelt says, though I am not so sure you actually have as many "physical" torpedoes as you do "visual" ones, meaning half of them seem to me to be illusions, as the damage doesn't seem to blow more enemies up than usual.

    I have seen what he is talking about and it is done like bluemodelt says but I am not sure that there are actually that many live torpedoes flying, just shiny dots.

    EDIT: hard to explain in shuttle though as they have no slots for double of anything and if they are firing a beam as well, you know they don't have 2 torpedoes.
