Playable Jupiter

Are people pissing themselves yet? This has been asked for almost as long as a T5 Connie albeit not as much.

For my part I take back everything bad I ever said about the Odyssey.

Anyways... I was surprised to see she had Intel seating instead of Command, as modern day Carriers are kinda the centerpiece of any battlegroup and act as the group command ship. However... Intel does synergize with Science more I guess. Also the Federation finally has its own legit frigate pets.

And for people complaining about not getting the Typhoon... we did. The higher quality models of the Command Cruisers. You can kitbash them to make a pretty good Typhoon. So now... you not only have your playable Typhoon, you got your playable Jupiter as well.

would not mind if they do a terran/mirror lockbox that we can get access to a mirror typhoon either as the box prize or for lobi, but i am wondering what they would put as the other option if we get it as either of those. maybe have the typhoon as the lobi ship an a mirror advanced research ship as the main lockbox ship (with maybe a version for each of the other factions).

What makes a Typhoon though? They've been replaced with the Command Cruisers, who pretty much have the exact same abilities as the NPC ship + a few more. The old Typhoon model was TRIBBLE. The Command Cruisers share design similarities with the Typhoon such as the double nacelles, and you can kitbash them to pretty much make a Typhoon. For all intents and purposes, the Command Cruiser line evolved from the NPC Typhoon and is pretty much the playable Typhoon.

What is the appeal of the old Typhoon model?

If we go by Probert's Ambassador, which shared many more design elements with the Galaxy than the Ambassador we got. However there is a progression in design asthetics between the Canon Ambassador and the Galaxy. Similar nacelles, similar layout of the secondary hull, the older style round saucer and neck as well as the older style rounder secondary hull.

The Guardian, to me, looks like it was based on Probert's Ambassador.

I like it, it has some design flow from the old Jupiter, but it looks a lot better. I plan on getting it. Same thing as the Typhoon, the Command Cruisers work OK for them. Even those are sweet ships.

At least this time, they put the name with the ship to show its supposed to replace the old in game model.

I bet all the people who seem to think the Command Cruisers are anything like the Typhoon also think the Constellation and Cheyenne are the same ship or the Daedalus and the Olympic.

Yes they both have duel nacelles, that's where the similarities begin and end.

The "command cruisers" are a huge anomaly anyway. What is their purpose, the gap they fill that couldn't be taken by a Sovereign (evolution), Galaxy (evolution) or the Oddyssey?

When I try to make sense of STOs ship design, it goes like this: We have the stock 24th century starships like intrepids, galaxies, sovereigns and so on. Those get retrofitted on the fly and once they hit a shipyard for some time they get refitted, so eventually all galaxies that exist now get turned into venture types eventually and so on. T6 ships are however new ships, no refits. So the Andromeda replaces Galaxies (Ventures) - those are not produced any more as of now (release of the Andromeda). Now, the only ships that are being build anew are the T6 versions. Now, the "command battlecruisers" - why do they exist? Andromeda, Regent (which no daoubt gets a T6), Arbiter, Excalibur? (the Excelsior T6) and still the Oddyssey - they all can do what the "command battlecruisers" do.

The Typhoon was a kind of Sovereign variant on steroids, a step between Sovereign and Oddyssey which would have worked great for the mirrorverse as it makes no sense that they have the same ships as prime starfleet has, aside from maybe the Oddyysey which I see they stole (and so they can have their Enterprise). Prime starfleet closed the gap the Typhoon was in, but mirror starfleet should still use it, alongside star cruisers, imperial assault cruisers and other Cryptic launch variants. And like the "mirror guardian", the "mirror Typhoon" could have been a thing for players.

I was never too keen on the old Jupiter anyway, this new one is so much nicer and comes with a Dev guarantee that it is a direct replacement unlike the Typhoon and the CC's.

Yes they both have duel nacelles, that's where the similarities begin and end.

The "command cruisers" are a huge anomaly anyway. What is their purpose, the gap they fill that couldn't be taken by a Sovereign (evolution), Galaxy (evolution) or the Oddyssey?

I think the Typhoon should have been the Terrans Oddy. It's the same size and bulk and fits the design language of both powers nicely.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.

And for people complaining about not getting the Typhoon... we did. The higher quality models of the Command Cruisers. You can kitbash them to make a pretty good Typhoon. So now... you not only have your playable Typhoon, you got your playable Jupiter as well.

We've been through this. It's no more a Typhoon than an Ambassador is a Galaxy.

Well, and the Jupiter is as much Jupiter as the Ambassador is a Galaxy, too. I am afraid you'll remain forever disappointed here.

I was never too keen on the old Jupiter anyway, this new one is so much nicer and comes with a Dev guarantee that it is a direct replacement unlike the Typhoon and the CC's.

I bet all the people who seem to think the Command Cruisers are anything like the Typhoon also think the Constellation and Cheyenne are the same ship or the Daedalus and the Olympic.

The Typhoon is actually smaller than the Odyssey by a good 116 meters, and has nowhere near the volume.

    Hard to say, really.

The Oddy has longer nacelles and the empty neck. I'd say a Star Cruiser (being "solid" all the way), a Typhoon and a Oddy might have around the same internal space.

I always wondered what happened to the Typhoon class ( I had stopped playing for about a year ), I always liked seeing it appear in various missions when I was leveling up my very first character, now all those missions have been updated and replaced the Typhoon with the Concorde and couldn't help but notice how similar it looks.

I wouldn't mind buying the Command Cruiser bundle just so that I can kit bash and make a Typhoon out of it.

I can't remember which mission featured the original Jupiter, or was it a foundry mission? I really can't remember other than having my ship sit right next to it.

It was a rare sight for a long time, I think. It's a dreadnought level enemy, so you will normally not encounter it in regular single player missions.
Many years ago, before F2P even I think, it was the Federation command vessel of the Battle Group Omega, matched with a Vo'Quv on the Klingon side. But it was later replaced with a Galaxy-X Dreadnaught.

But it doesn't, It has duel nacelles, that's it.

It's a Resolute with a second set of nacelles. It has one of those tiny embarrassing Excelsior deflectors, none of the three have the saucer shaped like the Noble, they have the stupid accordion neck of the Excelsior, and stupid looking pylons.

The Typhoon has a mouth shaped deflector, a oval cross section hull, no neck, awesome armoured nacelles, a Sovereign shaped saucer, and a full allure of battleship awesomeness that the Command Cruisers lack.

They are duel nacelled Resolutes, nothing more.

The Resolute came out AFTER the Command Cruisers though. So saying they are the same as the Resolute is putting the cart before the horse so to speak. And you can kitbash the three Command Cruisers to make a pretty good, hugh quality mockup of the Typhoon. The Typhoon model was low quality compared to many of the ships we had in game. ESPECIALLY newer ships.
