Bridge Officer Traits in Lock Boxes

So how about it Cryptic?

Each Bridge officer having 4 Slots, 2 for Ground and 2 for Space, slottable and uslottable like our Captains' are, but ONLY usable by Bridge Officers, who in turn would be unable to use any Captain Traits. Put them in Boxes.

Nothing out-of-this-world OP, but given the raging success and customer satisfaction level of the new trait system, this kind of thing would be a nice cherry on top.

And would also be incredibly P2W.

Like it or not, but at one point somebody used money to buy the zen that was then sold for dilithium so somebody could buy the keys that they listed on the exchange for another person to buy.

This would be a good system, but ONLY if we could also acquire these traits from a regular EC Vendor. If not, I will be against it, no matter what.

Personally I'd rather have a small fixed pool of available boff traits, which would pretty much encompass all those currently available to each species plus some generic add-ons in the event of special boffs [who all have the same traits ATM]. Having to worry about unlocking both skills and traits for boff recruits I think would get a little tedious.

I concur. This would be nice. I would like a bit of customization in Traits, especially for the Special BOffs. They don't have any useful Space Traits.

Right now my ground boffs have *4* ground traits. Why do you want to take away their traits? You monster!

How about 1-2 new extra slot(s), that can be used for either space or ground? With exceptions, like a Romulan Operative can't slot the generic boff Operative.

No. You would be taking two of each Boff's ground traits. I spent a lot of time tracking down Boffs with the traits I wanted. I don't want each of them to lose two traits because of some whiny space brat. You want Boffs with space traits, join a fleet and get them from the embassy.

Well, VR Boffs have two Standard and two Superior Traits. Continuing that, a UR Boff would have one Standard and three Superior and Epic would have all four Superior.

The Leeta Boff that was just made available in the Pop Culture Hero Coalition Charity Drive through Groupees was Epic and should have had four Superior, but only had two.

    No I don't like it.
If this were to be implemented it would ruin the "originality" of certain reward boffs, and their "uniqueness"

Why Keep Nelan Exil, Heirarchy Boff, Kobali boff, Android boff, Jem Hadar Boff, Breen Boff, Borg Science Boff, Liberated Engi Boff, Photonic Maco Boff, ? They will serve no point. And anything unique or original about them will be taken away.
They will then become, common place, and "no big deal" nothing special about them, to separate them from any old boff you could slot in their place.

No I don't like this idea at all !

Why not fill my roster with SRO romulans, with 2 space traits a piece ! Yeah ?
Or fill my roster with Efficient/Pirate trait boffs.
(Because you know everyone would stuff their ships with the same 2 space trait boffs they could get their hands on)

What if I "want" the 4 ground traits Nelan Exil comes with ?
Sounds like you would like 2 space and 2 ground traits per all boffs... This would ruin my ground boffs.
As now they must carry 2 space traits.
Or even if you said, "Ground boffs will retain their 4 ground traits", then what about when someone wants 4 space trait space boffs ?
What are we going to have then ?
Oh yes I know, 4 space trait Superior Romulan Operatives.... great ! Like we need more powercreep, and like SRO's need an extra 2 or 3 space traits...

No, Just no, really bad idea when you break it down. While it sounds great on the surface, when you actually take a deeper look at it. It's a terrible idea. I'm sorry.

This would kill any reason to collect specialty boffs.

I agree with taylor1701d, I do not use SRO boffs for a reason. I choose my Boffs not on what they can to DPS but more around the uniqueness they add to the alt I am using. (and minor RP reasons).

I believe I have a link in my signature to a Bridge Officer Development proposal, part of which had some ideas that addressed BOFF Traits.

To reply to a couple of comments here so far:

I'd have to be a complete imbecile to not want us to be able to get traits (or anything else for that matter) without someone having to spend Zen for them to appear in the game. But, there was a LONG LONG thread about a Bridge Officer trait revamp which, if it had actually been followed up, might have resulted in having Tellarites being able to have 4, 3, or 2 ground traits in the same way that some Saurians have 4, and others have the Efficient space trait. It could even have resulted in having all the race specific traits opened out to Bridge Officers. Some would have 4 ground, some 2, some 3, etc.

It didn't happen and for the record, I'm not after 'Moar P2W', there's enough of that in the game already, I'm after IDIC, but the only way to get that is through monetizing everything it seems. Sadly.

I play only Romulan characters, and therefore don't need to go to any embassy to get my 'Space Brat' Bridge Officers. I play ground. I even go to Kobali Prime once in a while - just for FUN. So. Not a 'Space Brat'. I'll thank you to not just assume I'm suggesting this because I wanna do moar critz/dps.

For one thing, given that it's possible to be immune to all damage for over 10 seconds in this game without spending even 1 EC, let alone any real money, I don't see anything wrong with having 4 space traits as long as there is a limit on what types of buff can stack. Maybe some resistance, or flight speed, or other non damage related traits. I didn't make a spreadsheet with a detailed breakdown of traits and their effects, just throwing an idea for more varied build possibilities out there, not suggesting any specific traits.

And if you bought Bridge Officers specifically for their ground traits, well, good on you, so did I, and it actually took a long time to find the right one. I even went to the lengths of collecting Rep ground sets I'll never use in order to get costumes for them, but geting the traits and simply slotting them on the officers I got while levelling up or through duty officer recruitment assignments would have been a great deal less time consuming and easier.

If I recall corrrectly, the Space Traits out there are:

1-2 Points in power levels that most will never see the benefit of because Power Creep (Efficient BOffs), Token Hull Regen (Humans) Crits/Dmg (Roms/Pirates) - greatly imbalanced in favour of one faction, RnD Loot (Talaxian) - Nice for alts, farming and solo stuff, and Ability Spam (Krenim/Xindi). And that's about it. I probably missed one or two, but the general idea is expressed.

It's also worth pointing out that since many of those require either lots of EC (since they are UBER rare to find in duty officer assignments (Sup Rom/Rem), Lobi, LOTS of dilithium, or a sub of some description, they are already 'P2W' by someone's definition.

Does it HAVE to be specifically 2 Space and 2 Ground? No. Does it have allow for 4 Space Traits? No. But if people don't like the idea, then people don't like the idea.

(Edit): And on the topic of episode reward Boffs, etc, why not give them unique superior versions of the traits they already have? Since they're all ground traits anyways, they would have zero effect on anything where players have to interact, but would still be able to maintain their uniqueness.
