The Republic

The Republic [Romulan Republic] has been a significant part of the game now for over two years, and yet I still feel they remain in an unfinished state. Whilst I know that is a subjective statement (cause what defines a faction as finished), there is more truth to it than not. There are several additions that could be made to the Republic to better flesh them out. I'm not asking for them to be made independent, cause that just isn't a realistic goal with them anymore. Don't get me wrong, it would be nice, but the work required to do it, I imagine, would be substantial. As much as it pains me to say, I would rather that work go in to advancing the game.

What I would like to see though is, as states, a better finish. Unless I am mistaken, the Acamarian and Suliban first because popular Doffs with the Republic release. I would ask that their Doff status be updated to include them as Bridge Officers too. I am aware the community is split on this, but quite frankly, if people don't want to use them, they don't have too, but those people that do want to use them should have that privilege.

Whilst also on the subject of bridge officers, I would like to further request the option of a Republic-Alien with some unique traits. We're presently using FED/KDF ones if we wish to have an alien on board. Nothing unique about them at all. There's also the lack of a Contraband Officer anywhere on Mol'rhian, New Romulus Command or the Flotilla. Could the Republic please get one of those? Seems a bit unfortunate that a Republic Officer is needing to travel to Earth, Qo'nos or elsewhere in order to cash in on Contraband.

And finally, for now at least, allow Republic players the option of playing with a Talaxian. Considering the Republic were involved in the Delta Expansion on equal terms to the Federation and Imperials, there's no justification for them being locked out of having Talaxians. Please fix this.

Personally, I think fleets should have a project that would give their starbase a Romulan appearance. That way Romulan fleets could actually have a Romulan starbase without having to start over.

On that note, I'm actually quite surprised we don't at least have access to the Gasko Station starbase as a unique Romulan social zone by now.
Or have it randomly show up as the defensible starbase in a Fleet Alert or something.

Like, I get it. The RRW is a fledgling power. They probably only have one real starbase available to them, lore-wise. But c'mon, there's stuff in-game that can be worked with.

I think after the Solane arc, the Romulan Republic could go back to just being a sole power, doesn't matter if you played through as a fed or KDF rom, you just go back to being Romulan.

Least that's my 2 cents. Plus Romulans could use some more ships, just like the KDF.

It's not as simple as that though. The internal game dynamics don't currently allow for it, and it would (I'd think) be a major mess trying to reshuffle the game to allow for it. They'd have to rework the entire alliance system, the fleet systems, and the omega rep (of which currently has faction-specific rewards). That's not the half of it either.

I would love nothing more than for this to happen, but I don't think it's viable (with the games perspective) to have them cut those alliance strings.

Most Romulan players have been clamoring for this stuff since launch, even doing so in the appropriate sub-forum. But yes, our own academy, security officer, an orbiting shipyard(even just one that's partially assembled) would be really nice.

Hell just cloning the Fed/KDF security officers on DS9 and giving them new skins would be nice. Plop them just outside NRC on the steps near Spock's memorial.

True, but then in this instance, if they want people to play the Republic, surely there's more benefit for them working a little more on them? Surely the above suggestions wouldn't take that much doing, and yet, it would make all the difference to us players.

Seems to be hard-wired into the game now. Look at Stormbound. Feds take a Fed shuttle, KDF take a Klingon shuttle and Romulans take their faction's shuttle, not a Romulan one. If they can't even give Romulans their own shuttle/map then I doubt they're planning anything bigger.

If it's not catering to the golden children aka Federation, PWE/Cryptic doesn't care.

I agree that some things are needed for the Romulans. A starbase Romulan theme option. The Fleet my Romulan is in will love it, as we are more Romulan based players. More Romulan bridge choices. Contraband turn in on their main base or Flotilla. We used to have special Romulan access weapons. Those got removed, be nice to see them back. I got some before they was removed.

There is a lot they can work with.

RRF needs to be a full fledged faction, and faction teaming restrictions need to be less restrictive. After someone's completed the proper missions allow teaming with any faction already.

been wondering why the romulans dont have there own security officer or academy rather than the single console for recruiting, it would be nice to be able to wonder into a part of the city that has been under construction for years now that cryptic said " yea we will be constantly adding stuff and keeping and eye on it" and yet nothing has happened since launch for new romulus no progress on the capital or anything.

i was also hoping to see some romulan specific bridge officer recruitment Doff assignments but never seen one at all since i started playing or anywhere to get more romulan or reman Doffs apart from the normal recruitment consoles.

I don't think any changes need to happen for Romulans, and that's having a Rom and Reman. I think what's available now is perfectly fine. Little QoL changes aside, for there to be a 3rd Faction of Romulans there needs to be a storyline build-up to the Reunification. At the moment the Romulans are still fractured and divided. You can't just dump it in there. Although it's been 2 years in real-life since Romulans came into the game, it's barely been a year in game. The story would have to make sense as well. You can't just have an 'all-is-forgiven' miracle.

At the moment Romulans have the Flotilla and New Romulas that both sides can visit. What people are seeming to forget to is making Romulans a full faction wouldn't really make that much of a difference, besides get their own fleet holdings. You also have the seperate Rom-Faction storylines to consider, because these would still need to be run through. You can't just remove these, as they are part of the story. Removing them from the game is going to hurt the timeline even more. Cryptic would have write at least a season's worth of episodes, just for Romulans, on top of a season of main game content. You're talking Expansion level development on top of having Romulan based Fleet STF's, which will suffer the same fate as Klingon Fleet STF's.

Alien Boff's are available freely to all factions, there is no discrimination there, so I don't see why you're asking for Rom versions. All, you want Contraband officers, then go your faction officer located at various places. Rom Command is neutral ground. It's no imposition for either other faction!.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

Not having contraband turn in at New Rom is pretty bad, essentially punishing us for being there. It's the simplest thing ever to copy-paste onto whatever existing NPC, and the fact that it hasn't happened so long says a lot about how non-Feds are regarded, nevermind no T6 Science or Carriers.

We pay full price on everything yet don't get to be a full faction, don't even get ships to match our career type (I've abandoned my delta recruit Rom & KDF Sci in favor of the older Tacs for main status).

Even an I.R.W. prefix that would take a whole 3 seconds to type out isn't available with new ships. Why sell a Romulan uniform in the C-store? Why provide a Tal Shiar uniform?

It is bad enough we're forced to play a Republican only to have to end up using Fed or KDF fleet holdings to completely ruin RP immersion, which are fleet contributions and fleet status that are bound to character.

We're constantly being sold on the gear and appearance of villains (Herald, Elachi, etc.), already fly Imperial ships (D'D, Scimitar, Mogai, etc.) yet having Imperials as a faction was somehow not acceptable, despite Roms not being exotic alien species, despite nearly every species having had some sort of negative aspect while maturing as a culture, and despite the message of ST as a whole to not discriminate on the basis of species.

KDF routinely attacks Fed outposts in Doff missions, double up as Villains for Feds and Fed-Allied Roms, yet it's the newer Roms that need to be differentiated between Imperial or Republican, nevermind the contradiction of allying with two separate factions.

This really says it all too.... and that part of the episode pissed me off so bad. The old cardi arc mission that took you through the wormhole at least had the excuse of being older than the Romulan expansion, this did not.

I think that's the breaking point, right there. So much of the game must've been hard-coded as a Red-or-Blue equation right from day one. And if that's the case, I can only imagine how much work goes into bypassing all that for even the small references the Republic gets in the stories. Like Neelix mentioning you're a Romulan, and he's never seen a Romulan ship before.

I wonder what the code looks like...
    IF Federation THEN
    - speak to Quinn
    ELSE
    - speak to J'mpok
    END IF

    'new code added for LoR
    IF bleeds green THEN
    - ignore the old guy and the ridge head
    - talk to the guy with the scar, or the kid who hugged Spock once
    END IF
