Quick question about proton weapons

zero2362zero2362 Member Posts: 436 Arc User
I know dyson ships come with a locked proton weapon but I was wondering if there are any other proton weapons in game and if so how you get them

EDIT I was more wondering if there are regular proton weapons so you can load the entire ship for proton damage or if there are only special proton weapons

There are the protonic Polaron weapons from the same rep but thats not true Proton.
As far as I am aware, the fused weapons and the experimental weapon are the only true proton weapons available.
The experimental weapon is a beam when purchased if memory serves but can function with both beam and cannon abilities.

Full list of proton weapons, space and ground:
    • Solanae Dual Proton Heavy Cannons: Space. 45 degree dual heavy cannons. Locked on dyson ships and cannot be removed or upgraded, but it scales with level all the way to 60.
    • Experimental Proton Weapon: Space. 180-degree beam/cannon hybrid. Dyson rep project. Can be used with beam overload and scatter volley natively, but requires additional set pieces to work with fire at will and rapid fire.
    • Dyson Experimental Proton Beam Rifle: Ground. Wide beam/sniper rifle hybrid. Dyson rep project. Secondary firing mode is a wide beam attack vs non-exposed targets and a sniper rifle shot vs exposed targets.
    • Synchronic Proton Distortion Prototype Assault Rifle: Ground. Assault rifle. Reward from one of the early Devidian arc missions. Only the secondary firing mode is Proton-based. The primary firing mode is antiproton. Note that very few weapons utilize the multi-target chaining mechanic or possess multiple damage types, so this is a very unique (although not overly powerful) weapon.

Yeah, there isn't much, and for the space weapons in particular, there's no decent way to increase their damage (the dyson tactical consoles suck) so proton weapons are generally disregarded.

    And there you go. :)

    Edit:

Those only sort of count (there's dyson science consoles too with proton damage) because while they have a chance to deal bonus proton damage, the tac consoles or anything else that boost proton damage doesn't affect them. At least, not that I remember.

The Experimental Proton weapon (beam/cannon hybrid) is part of the protonic arsenal 3 piece set in the Dyson Rep.

There's that Ghostbusters proton pack from one of the Devidian episodes. But you prolly want ship weapons.

    Beam/cannon hybrid.... seemed pretty clear
it looks like a beam, but it's 180 degree arc and has cannon dps and firing rate (+6% CrH, +10% Acc). if you have the protonic arsenal set, it can be used both with FAW and CRF

Not just Fire-at-Will and Rapid Fire, but Beam Overload and Scatter volley as well.

Also the point defense trait uses proton

Is it affected by Proton damage boosts? I've always wondered that and when I think I asked I could never get a answer.

So if i pick up the science destroyers best to just leave the proyon stuff unboosted?

There's very few Proton damage boosts. The console from Protonic arsenal gives a ~15% Proton dmg boost at mkxiv, the dyson rep consoles from the store (tactical ones) give a boost to Proton weapon damage as well.
    Not sure about Fleet boosts.

It's worth noting that the dyson rep consoles give proton boosts at the cost of whatever else they boost. For comparison:

    Basic tactical console: 30% polaron
Dyson rep console: 20% polaron, 15% proton

Fleet tactical consoles with [+beam] or [+Can] should work for proton weapons in theory. When I was still PvPin', I remember proton barrage getting a significant boost in damage from Beam and high Aux power.
I was actually considering toying around with this for a sort of joke/for fun rainbow build since I have so many special rep/mission set Mk XIV DHCs gathering dust (resonant disruptor, quantum phase, advanced thoron, etc). Stay tuned while I experiment...

    Research results:
    • Prefire Chamber (+cannon damage) will boost damage from the Dyson ship's built-in Proton DHCs
    • Neither the Prefire Chamber (+cannon) nor Directed Energy Distribution Manifold (+beam) boost damage from the Experimental Proton Weapon.

I understand the limitations regarding boosting the Proton damage but is there no real benefit to rear facing 180°, rapid fire/spread cannon fire available from the Experimental Proton weapon?

Up to you...but if you're like most people and only care about maximizing your dps fully...well then I would personally say pass on the ship all together.

If you want to maximize Proton damage best you can there are some options...a question I'd ask to figure out a thing or two...what are we talking about? The free one from the anniversary or did your purchase one ore more from the C-store?
