I was thinking something similar, but had more of a 'Ten Forward' bent to it.
Your idea is better.
It's the ships "Recreation Center" like we saw on The Motion Picture Enterprise.

Its like the old Jupiter from Launch got upgraded and a nice look.
Really? As much as you may pretend or wish...this thing really looks little like the Jupiter....
Which is probably about how much I wanted to retain of the Jupiter. The Jupiter itself had some cool ideas, but was terribly executed. I find most of the cool ideas in this ship, but this time executed well.
I think the only Jupiter feature that I am missing is the more vertical design of the saucer/main section.

I just don't get it...other than sharing four nacelles and being a whale of a hull they look nothing alike...this ship is obviously slimmer...doesn't have the kind of potbelly the Jupiter had...the deflector was on the potbelly...there just isn't much in common and quite frankly I'm thankful for that.
It looks great and huge! Can't wait for it. The one thing I'm expecting is some serious out-pouring of complaints......as usual. It's not going to turn on a dime, nor be a DPS based power-house, so please don't expect that it should be guys.
"You don't want to patrol!? You don't want to escort!? You don't want to defend the Federation's Starbases!? Then why are you flying my Starships!? If you were a Klingon you'd be killed on the spot, but lucky for you.....you WERE in Starfleet. Let's see how New Zealand Penal Colony suits you." Adm A. Necheyev.

But don't you know? If it isn't the best...if it doesn't top the DPS charts it's useless!

It obviously has enough in common with the Jupiter class for fans of that vessel to immediately recognize them.
Hell, in the latest Dev Blog about it, it is finally outright admitted that the eighth design, the Omega, explicitly took design cues from the Jupiter class, something that people so far were heavily suspecting.
I like the idea of a carrier. And I fly 2 of them: the Xindi Aquatic and the Breen. However the Breen is my KDF and you will never get me out of the Xindi. Pets need some work also. Maybe this is coming with the release of the carrier.

I hope it comes with unique fighter/shuttle pets that have a corresponding playable version.

I would actually be quite happy if the new Carrier also include an updated 2410 shuttle. After all, this ship would need the latest and greatest stuff, so an updated shuttle would be fantastic.

So it took a few design cues...saying this ship looks just like the Jupiter is like saying the Ambassador class looks just like the Galaxy class...sure they may have a similar shape in some ways but they're very much different.

Janeway Endgame Shuttle Pets? I would love Janeway Endgame Shuttle Pets. Please Cryptic? Then we can have a usable one hopefully.
the best part of this whole come about for a carrier is the simple fact that in their opening paragraph they pretty much sum up what the Vesta was designed to do from the start...too bad silly ideas of balance were tossed around so much back then. The Vesta class line is only a few meters shorter than a sovy, with pretty much the same armament and a secondary hull filled with runabouts...oh ya and the integrated quantum slipstream to get from point A to point B super quick.....
"What does Starfleet even need a carrier for? Is it for long range multi-system exploration? Catastrophic emergency relief where scores of people and equipment need to be moved ASAP? All those possible use questions/ scenarios were really helpful to determine the design of the ship."
Nah, it looks very fine. (TBH every ship they put out looks very good now.) The problem is carrier mechanics need a huge boost. Or unnerf. Or put it in the c-store description that you will need lockbox pets and lockbox traits to fully enjoy the ship.
In normal STFs I need to launch several times my *sheshar* pets because they go boom lol...
It's ugly. And it's a whale of a ship. Then again, a full size carrier is supposed to be a whale of a ship.
Just about every full carrier in this game is analagous to some kind of deformed, ugly whale.

Even in real-life all carriers are ugly; with supercarriers especially massive whales of a ship. So I guess fiction follows reality in this case.
It just needs frigate pets and either a Tac-oriented or Sci-oriented setup.
Then copy the stats over to a new Romulan Carrier that we didn't vote on and maybe the Vo'Quv. Instant triple bundle.
I actually thought our involvement wouldn't end with the selection of the design. It would have been nice if they had given us the opportunity to provide some input regarding hull pattern, superstructures (like a mission pod), engines and even boff seat layout. But appearently "design your ship" means nothing more than "pick your favorite hull shape".
That thing up there is the result of player voting, I shudder to think what it would look like with player voted textures. Atleast the Cryptic artists can erase some of the ugly in the final stages of building.

Exactly.
Player voted textures? It would look like it was covered with space techno-barnacles with spines and glowing bits shooting off sparks for no reason. Nostalgia for Infinity, if anyone knows that reference.

It has a matching one on the right side, too.
More than likely either a sensor dome, or crew decks, or a "conning tower" for the support craft.

Shame the players chose a design purely because it "kinda, sorta, if I squint" looks like a Jupiter class.
not all of us chose that one we see now...but its done and over with, I will play with my vesta and run circles around this carrier when it arrives.
