Forum problem with "Open in new tab"? [ Now With More Workaround!]

cuchulainn74cuchulainn74 Member Posts: 831 Arc User
I've suddenly started having problems when trying to "Open in a new tab" in both Chrome and IE. A new tab will open, but will immediately jump back to the Forums root instead of the conversation I wanted to open. Anybody else seeing this?

EDIT:
There's a solid workaround for the issue, described by a few posters below. Here's a succinct but thorough set of directions from TheGrandNagus:

1) get the "adblock" extension for your browser.

2) once installed, add this customer filter:

http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/themes/Arc/js/*

3) then, use this link for your bookmark to this board(STO general discussion):

http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/categories/star-trek-online-general-discussion

And here is the bookmark url for the forum home:

http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/

After you have done all of this, your ARC overlay will be gone and you can right click/open new tabs as normal

Something changed. There is now a "#" in the forum url(at the very end of "startrekonline") that wasn't there before.

What kind of problems? I didn't notice anything right now when I tested it, but I'm using Chrome for Android.

Sorry, just updated the OP. Realized I forgot to explicitly describe the problem. The tab opens, and is actually momentarily in the correct page, then jumps back to the root of the STO Forums.

I use Firefox. Each time I open a new tab, it asks me whether I want to stay on the page or not. If I use "stay", the page loads as usual. If I choose "leave", the new tab opens the forum with the ARC overlay.

It just started in the last half-hour or so for both discussions and user profile links. This is using the latest Google Chrome in Windows 8.1.

Left-click is fine, right-click > open in new tab is broken.

OK, just reopened this thread in a new tab and am happy to report that they didn't TRIBBLE up the mobile site. In this way. This time. Yet.

Sorry, I can't commiserate on this one just yet...

I can attest to the OP's issue, it's really quite frustrating as someone who monitors several sections of the forums.

Same problem here, its especially annoying since: right click > open in new tab was a good way to go around the pesky ARC overlay which actually makes the Forum display laggy, kind of like a slide-show...

    Thanks, Trendy.

I'm telling you folks, it's not your internet browser. This is a new character in the url that wasn't there before(or was in a different place). For example, here is the url of this thread, taken directly from my internet browser:

    http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1207776/forum-problem-with-open-in-new-tab

Do you see the "#" after "startrekonline"? Now, if you go to the general discussion board and mouse over this thread, it does not show the "#" after "startrekonline", but rather at the end of the url after the word "tab":

    http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/discussion/1207776/forum-problem-with-open-in-new-tab#latest

Somebody made some changes behind the scenes today, and (among other things?) it screwed up the forum urls. So if you click on any "old" url(I'm assuming, ones that were created before today's change), they do not have the "#" in the correct place, so it takes you to the home forum root by default. It's not your browser.

It's getting me as well and I use Internet Explorer. Nuiscence it is...

Ok so it's not just me ! I was worried there for a moment !

Without the forum.arcgames, there's no jumping to the latest post, or linking to specific posts, and the engine light in my car won't go away, and those kids won't get off my lawn.

Can we maybe just do away with all the forced redirects? They seriously hamper the Vanilla forum system and the embedded site is horrible on mobile devices. Having to block so many of your redirect attempts just now and it seems silly. Let people choose whether they want to use embedded or not please, by all means make embedded the default like it currently is but don't force it on people if they prefer the non embedded version.

I cannot fully comment on the why, but simply that it's necessary due to the Vanilla structure for security. :S

Not being able to use tabs makes this site very inconvenient to use.

Still doing it... anyone else starting to get nostalgic for the old forums where we didn't have this problem?

I miss the Original STO Forums, who ever set those up would be considered a Hero, compared to what's going on now-a-days.

We've only had tabbed browsing since 1997. I suppose we could go back to using Mosaic. Perhaps no-tab browsing is the new hipster thing?
