How to access these forums without the Arc header after 11/18 changes

lucho80lucho80 Member Posts: 6,600 Bug Hunter
I apologize for how this thread go derailed below, and would like to thank @thegrandnagus1 forthe solution.
1) get the "adblock" extension for your browser.

2) once installed, add this custom filter:

http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/themes/Arc/js/*

3) then, use this link for your bookmark to this board(STO general discussion):

http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/categories/star-trek-online-general-discussion

And here is the bookmark url for the forum home:

http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/

After you have done all of this, your ARC overlay will be gone and you can right click/open new tabs as normal

It not only wastes screen space and thus requiring more scrolling, it also destroys forum usability. How? It always sends me to the top of the page instead of directly to the post I'm trying to get to.

Example: There's a thread I've read previously, 5 new posts appear since then. WITHOUT the Arc header, clicking on that thread's name would take me directly to the first unread post. WITH the Arc header, I'm sent to the top of the page with the first unread post.

    That's just annoying.
TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

I don't know what the hell's going on but I can't even open forum threads in new links without them heading back to the forum HOME directory....

Add this to adblock custom filters and access the forums via the extension or forum.arcgames link, it will filter the redirect. Thanks to @gulberat for pointing it out and let's hope @asterelle updates the forum extension soon pig-1.gif

Thank you. I was going to ask if someone had some script to get back to the sanitized version. Awesome!

@pwlaughingtrendy - The comment above about heading back to the home directory over and over are true. Whatever you guys did to redirect us to the version with the arc links on top screwed up something else.

This is not directly related, but I was wondering if anyone here can tell me why the "open link in new tab" option when I click doesn't seem to work anymore for me?
For ex. - I'm on the main page of the STO forum and I want to open 'General Discussion' in a new tab, the result I'm getting is the forum opening another tab of the main page of the STO forum, not 'General Discussion'. Only if I try to access a certain section of the forum by directly clicking on that area within an existing tab does it open. This started happening as of today, or at least I've noticed it as of now - any ideas?

Looks like someone's been ****ing around with things again, was blocking the new redirect with ABP, now I'm back in the crappy and utterly useless embedded forums again.

@lucho80 no problem. Maybe you want to add that infro to your OP so people who only read the OP get it as well pig-1.gif

While we are forum-griping, for awhile there we had links at the bottom of the pages that would go back to the top. Those seem to have gone AWOL.

@pwlaughingtrendy I have the same problem. I see 2 or 3 interesting links click on them in new tabs and get redirected to the main forum page instead of the thread. On top of all the other problems and poor layout design at Ultra HD it makes the forums very frustrating to use.

Question, how do you block a website using ABP?

I can only see the left 20% on my phone . . . scrolling to the right only just shows black.
Have you tried the new forum on your phone?

If anyone needs a simple step by step, here it is:

    1) get the "adblock" extension for your browser.

    2) once installed, add this custom filter:

    http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/themes/Arc/js/*

    3) then, use this link for your bookmark to this board(STO general discussion):

    http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/categories/star-trek-online-general-discussion

And here is the bookmark url for the forum home:

    http://forum.arcgames.com/startrekonline/

After you have done all of this, your ARC overlay will be gone and you can right click/open new tabs as normal

Huh? You do realize I'm asking a question in that thread, specifically about how battlezone contribution is calculated, and not just complaining about it. Right? ;)

Like you said, not JUST complaining. Meaning you WERE complaining. About your cute little first world problem. Not that there is anything wrong with that...except for the fact that you choose to reply to this thread and call it a first world problem. So if you are going to act like that, expect to have your own first world complaints thrown back at you.

Not really. Again, that thread was requesting clarification on something. You people are silly and overly dramatic.

Yeah, you asked a question. You also said you were getting "shafted" because you weren't getting good enough loot. In a video game. Now that is the ultimate first world problem :D

There is no "you people". You are reading/replying in this thread, complaining about other people complaining. Now that is the ultimate first world problem :D
Nice try, but no. I simply stated, albeit indirectly, that complaining about the fact that you can't hide the arc header when you browse these forums anymore is quite possibly one of the stupidest complaints I've ever seen someone get bent out of shape over. I hide it every time I browse the forums in the same way I hide any other header on any other website: I just scroll down to read the content.

I get it, "complaining about complaining yadda yadda whatever" is a commonly-used deflection tactic, but anyone with sense will see right through it, as it doesn't make my point any less valid.

Unfortunately you missed my edit, so I'll give you a moment to go back and read it. Then you can get back to telling us how "shafted" you are by not getting the loot you want in a video game :D

Fortunately I don't have to "try" at all, because you made it so hilariously easy. The OP of this thread said the new forum changes were "sad". In your thread, you whined about getting SHAFTED... because you weren't getting the loot you wanted... in a video game. You can't have it both ways. If you think the OP's complaint is a first world problem, then your "shafting" is too. But go ahead and make another post denying it, I don't mind :D
