Latinum?

Hi, I have been playing star trek for some time now. I have a big balance of latinum, but there isnt alot I can do with it. Perhaps they should really start looking into items other then just holographic stuff, trophies etc. Who here agrees with me about this?

I agree that it's easy to have latinum pile up. There was a time when DOff assignments allowed the trading of latinum for commodities, which would be useful for folks contributing to fleet projects, but the sector revamp effectively took those assignments away. I expect that's an oversight, and that we'll get them back eventually. Besides which, at something like 1,000 latinum a pop, it would take a long time to spend a serious latinum reserve on those sorts of assignments.

Yep latinum needs a new something

maybe like so much could be traded in for dilithium ? like the spec points...
I wouldn't suggest trophies since 1 faction cant even use them...poor romulan bridge interior..

Maybe some new costumes, some kind of "high roller" outfit, or even better, holodeck period outfits, for the roleplayers out there, since latinum is in a way just sorta rp anyway.

After hitting another triple dabo the other night, I do sit and wonder what to do with it...

The commodity for latinum assignments still exists. I see them all the time but can't be bothered as it's just not worth it IMO.

Yap, you usually get one of them in the DS9 space zone.

How you build up a serious amount of latinum I don't know though. I have maybe 40k on some toons - and don't even know where they come from (do "Ferengi Marauding" give you some?), which with these 1500-1800 a pop would be gone quickly, but the only one worth it IMO is lat for contraband.

I usually take the Dabo DOFF assignment when it comes up. If I go to Drozano for something I'll play Dabo for maybe 15 minutes. Even though I have the Nandi, I think I've only played Dabo once there. During Risa I would play Dabo in between events. Typically I only do it for maybe 15 minutes or so. I also use that ground DOFF that gives 1 per kill. Funny how that adds up over time with all the slaughtering we do lol.

True, but even if I did the dabo daily and critted it everytime that's 200 a day. Okay, 15 minutes of dabo itself is some time and can gather a few k. But how often do you go to Drozana unless you're roleplaying or buying lobi stuff?

I don't like staying at the same place all the time. So even though my main toon is Rom-KDF and so I'm mostly on Qo'nos, if I'm going to spend some time doing exchange stuff or inventory or whatever, I might head to Drozano. Or if I go to Nukara or am running around doing some Clusters I might stop in there. With the Sunrise FE and the Badlands BZ, DS9 is it's current "home" and that has Quarks with Dabo.

Tribble farming. That's where the latinum is at if you have the lobes, my boy!
Not that a pallet of latinum can even buy a small moon these days. Dang inflation.

There doesnt seem to be much point in exchanging any items into latinum. Its almost pointless

There was a dev thread awhile back looking for suggestions on stuff they could make for us buy with latinum. A bunch of suggestions came up for their self-described "social currency". A few of those suggestions were even developed. They ended up in lockboxes and the lobi store. It comes down to the fact that zen, dilithium and lobi are equitable to real money, and latinum is not, thus latinum wares generate no revenue and are classified somewhere between unimportant and a waste of resources.

I wouldn't expect them to do much with latinum. Like a lot of things it's a half-developed idea that's basically been abandoned. It's a theme with Cryptic.

I slotted the Ferengi Doff you get as a reward on the first play-through of 'Time in a Bottle'. He generates one Latium per ground kill. The character had about 23k to start with and I am in the upper 60k region now. A lot of Kobali and Defera Ground Zones.

Was in a similar situation but I unslotted him in favor of pretty much anyone else when I hit ~30k. There's just no point to latinum.

I have him slotted on all my toons - but apparently I just don't do ground as often...

Along with it's social aspect of purchasing dress up toys and participation trophies
Latium could be one of the 'commodities' deposited into special Fleet holding projects, something like
SB Special - "Fund Refugee Colonization Efforts": x dil, y Latinum, etc.
Research Special - "Purchase Ancient Artifact from Smuggler": x dil, y Latinum, etc.

Would be nice to be able to buy common items with latinum from certain vendors...maybe things like food, drink, low end equipment and resources (Mk III or less and Shield Generators). Maybe the game could do an 'on-the-fly' conversion from latinum to energy credits so you could make the purchase.

The fact that latinum is pretty much pointless in this game is stupid, given that DS9 set it as the most important currency in the known universe.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

    I want a latinum necklace.

I would also propose that select Ferengi items from the Lobi Store (namely the outfits) also be purchasable with latinum.

You need to think bigger: its a toilet made of solid latinum or nothing

The necklace, other ferengi outfits and the replica grand nagus cane, maybe also new headskirts.

Latinum is liquid at room temperatures. this is why it's suspended in (worthless replicatable) gold.
