Team Tactical - Saurian vs Human

Even though I've already started with a Human, he's only level 12, and so it's not like I'm too far to restart.

If it wasn't already obvious by the title, the choices here are between a Saurian or a Human for my character choice. I already have a bunch of characters, though wish to try my run at a Tactical. I can't remember where I read it now, but I know I've read that the Saurian make for good Tactical Bridge Officers, and in turn, I figure that also stands for their [would-be] use as a character choice too. Many people naturally use Humans though, however I figure that's more because of the obvious than it is them being specifically suited to the Tactical role.

Between a Saurian and a Human, what is the better choice? Does it even matter anymore with all these additional traits?

Check http://sto.gamepedia.com/Trait to see which trait Saurians and Humans get, if you do not think either is acceptable or useful go with Alien to be able to customize all ten trait slots.

Pretty soon, aliens will have two more trait slots than non-aliens. (10 space and 10 ground)

In addition, they're going to add a bunch of new space traits that will likely be at least on par with the human built in trait, and the saurians' built in trait is only for ground, and isn't that great. Also, if you choose alien, you can just make it look like a human or saurian, etc.

I was told that the Saurian bridge officer combined with Romulan Embassy (Blue) bridge officer , Hierarchy bridge officer and the rest human bridge officer would make a formidable bridge team. I am not sure if that is the certainty but if anyone knows of this setup, I would like to know if this is so.

Right now, having a full crew of the blue embassy BOff that has superior romulan operative is the "this or go home" standard. Hopefully that might change if they add the new traits to BOffs.
However, I think the OP is talking about which race to make his captain.

The Saurians aren't worth it anymore if you ask me...only faction that gets much use out of that trait is Romulans...even then you'd be better using Romulans and a Reman.

There are so many ways to get power and efficiency is weak as it is...just aren't worth anything anymore...especially in this age where even Feds have some options for space trait boffs.

To the OP...well personally I would go Human for many reasons...but if you want to be unique may want to go Saurian? Don't really see many player Saurian around.

Human if you recognize human awesomeness in star trek like myself, or Saurian if you wanna be different (or find saurian faces cute)

In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.

I am, and I would rather stay away from the generic Alien. I wouldn't be at all surprised if in the near future Cryptic rectify the extra trait(s) Alien-created characters get. I don't want to succumb to using one of them just for one (or two) extra trait slots though. Seems odd, but I'd rather my character have a predefined species.

For crying out loud, it's not TWO extra Traits, it's still ONE. This is a QoL update. People would swap out ten ground for ten Space and vice-versa, so this just relieves you of the annoyance of swapping.

Unless they have some power that lets them shoot up at stuff in orbit or down from orbit, you can't use Ground and Space simultaneously.

It doesn't matter a great deal, and the trait system upgrade doesn't really affect the choice. Saurians get a smattering of resistances that humans can't fully replicate with trait choices, but humans grant a bonus to exploit damage to the whole team (the Saurian bonus is for the captain only). I think the slight edge in flexibility that Leadership gives over the stuff Saurians get makes human the better overall choice, but if you're thinking about a character heavily focused on ground combat specifically, Saurian might be a bit better.

Correct. People are blowing the whole "OMG ALIEN GETS TWO EXTRA TRAITS!!11one" thing out of proportion. Aliens always had +1 extra selectable trait - the tradeoff is that they have no innate trait to begin with. Since Cryptic is finally dividing the space and ground traits, it only makes sense (and is the only fair way) to give the Aliens +1 to each category. They still only have +1 ACTIVE SELECTABLE TRAIT at a time. Had Cryptic said that Aliens would only have 9 space or ground traits to choose from after the trait updates, that would in fact be a nerf, leaving Aliens with LESS active traits at any one time than any other species.

Only one specific Embassy-acquired Romulan Tactical Officer has SRO. Non-Romulan players cannot make an entire bridge officer crew of SROs. The most they can do is buy the same blue SRO Tactical BOFF twice to fill both of the Tactical BOFF seats on their ship (if they have two)...or three SRO's if they are still flying something like the T5 Defiant which has three Tactical BOFF seats.
