That's jumping the gun a little.

Traits from lock boxes have gone missing for players in the past but Cryptic has always fixed it. The system can tell that you opened a box to unlock the trait, as is evidenced by some players saying they couldn't open another box for the same trait because the game said they can only have 1 of a unique item, meaning the trait was there just not accessible.

If you lose access to special traits when the changes go live, file a bug report, but make sure to have a better attitude about it.

Yeah that happened to me once. I had a character that was bugged somehow. I opened up a trait box, but it didn't display the trait in the list. I figured that I had just opened it on another character so I purchased another off the exchange and when I tried to open it I got an message saying I already had the trait. Cryptic support eventually fixed it for me in relatively short order. I don't think there's anything to worry about.

Taking a screenshot actually is a good idea. I went through and wrote down all of my BOFF layouts before the new system there came along and it really made my life easier.

Taking a copy of your loadout actually isn't a bad idea even if you only do it for yourself. So you can reconstruct your build if it ever messes up. I am not talking about losing abilities but rethinking a tray layout for example could be avoided.

Please tell me you've actually reported some 'minor' bug (non-Zen related, something not easy to verify) and had a response and an actual fix. Otherwise excuse me if I raise the nonsense flag.

They don't even have a log of your character's belongings. The best they do have as far as I've heard is copies of your characters post deletion assuming you don't make another character with the same name, or have multiple copies with similar names where it gets confusing to know; deleting everything in the hope they'll restore 1 busted item is also not exactly a good way to go about things either nevermind the fact that it wouldn't qualify as accidental.

I'm sitting on an [Antiproton Beam Array Mk XIV [Ac/Dm] [CrtD]x3 [Dmg]] Epic that's "bound to character." Don't believe me, come in chat and I'll link it. I've upgraded the other 6 or 7 the same way and those stayed 'account bind on equip' yet this one chose to bug out. Mounting it on the ship after giving up didn't clear it. Filed a bug report, wrote a support forum post on it, wasn't rude in any way but I was/am upset, and guess what, no support.

What do I find next in my inventory? An account-bound gold TR 116 with a mod I didn't want that I never equipped.

Missing items while using email to self where I made no mistakes in the destination (auto-completion and proof-reading name). Multiple times.

A fleet member told me to avoid using the fleet bank because they've had millions of EC vanish from there.

We put in serious cash and grind into these systems, yet they on the other hand don't bother to even fix crafting so that quality upgrades on certain items still, after all this time, result in worse specs, nevermind bug-ridden code that constantly gets shuffled around in major changes time and again.

It's not if, but when something major happens that affects enough players that they might consider looking at things. We've been through one such 'event' where bank items, fleet bank, and mail items were replaced with a dark blue empty unusable square. It happened to me, right next to a Sheshar sitting in a box 'safely' in the account shared bank slot I paid for.

I keep an inventory of everything major I ever bought, including those for resale, long term storage, or later use. I tried making screenshots of everything but it's hard to keep those up to date across so many toons with so much shuffling of items.

The game system already knows all the items you have and have used in the past (obviously), yet it's too much effort (translation = PWE corp probably keeping things at bare minimum to squeeze every drop of profit) to have periodic backups of those files for every toon on every account in a way that can be easily retrieved, verified for accuracy, and restored should such problems arise, which they have, which they continue to, and which will happen again.

I'm skeptical of this story, but the warning does make sense if you've spent 30 million EC on Reciprocity.

Yeah, this is actually a pretty good idea.

I don't have any super expensive traits, just Reciprocity on my Romulans (20M a Pop) but I would still hate to lose it. I'm going to take that screenshot.

Inspirational Leader 100M? That's way out of date. It's been over 250M for quite a while.

Reciprosity is a Ship trait though. Not a personal trait. This revamp is affecting personal traits.

As someone who doesn't go full space or full ground on personal traits... I wouldn't mind being able to have the new traits. I mostly use rifles on ground and there's going to be a rifle trait. I know someone who would go bananas over that +threat trait as he's pretty much my fleet's tank of tanks and enjoys having everyone's attention on his ship.

Whatever happens... happens. A panic attack won't accomplish anything.

Come to think of it, when they did the trait revamp way back when, a lot of personal traits went missing. Lock box, species, career, and even general traits. Some species even had a trait or 2 slotted that couldn't be removed at all and you were completely stuck using it. They did fix things eventually though.

Probably not a bad idea to compile records of some kind for what every character on your account has.

Every problem mentioned here I have had at one time or another. Yeah, I'll be taking those screen shots. Wish I would have thought of this before the black box/mail item disappearing scandel. I lost 4 Science/Engineer [Resall] Epic consoles in that mess not to mention a few other items. I just remember those really good because they were selling for 250mil Ecs at the time. Yeah 1 billion in Ecs Flushed.

I dont think I've ever had a problem like this, other than a few days ago two of my traits were deselected for some reason, but I still had them. Maybe because I dont have any traits you have to buy so I say: "Bring on the update" :P

Did you happen to claim or discharge any ships? I had this happen on at least 1 character the other day. I was going through and claiming c-store ships to add to admirality when I noticed 1 or 2 personal traits were unslotted and I had to turn them back on. When claiming and discharging ships it also screws up your away team skills and you end up having to reselect skills for 2 or 3 boffs.

Edit: Traits of any kind will turn themselves off in this situation, though it seems to be only a couple or so traits on a single character. On 1 character I just now noticed I had 2 ground reputation trait slots that were empty and had to resellect those traits. This of course happened when I was claiming and discharging c-store and event reputation ships to get the admirality tokens. So yeah, the system is already messed up in certain circumstances.
