Does Cryptic Have to Share?

Ive been getting a lot of Star Trek: Alien Domain ads on my facebook recently. And I dont know if ST:AD is designing their own ads or what but Ive been noticing a few STO images being mixed in to the ads.

Just today I saw an ad with STOs old sector space as one of the images. Its quite distinct and easily identifiable as STOs sector space prior to the changes.

Im sure ST:AD is licensed by CBS but I cant believe theyd be allowed to utilize images from STO to promote their game.

Just had a quick peak at some of their ship designs, some of which look a lot like various Cryptic designs. Maybe they are sharing?

I recognize the Gladius and Armitage, although they're named "Heron" and "Zephyr" respectively. It also looks like the "Stellar" might be the Odyssey saucer put on a Sovereign hull, hard to say from the angle. For some reason they have the Saber and "Heron" facing 180 degrees from all the other ships, like they don't actually know what the front of those ships is.

Since ST:AD is licensed under CBS this actually makes me wonder if CBS owns designs made by Cryptic, since they have to go through an approval process (or at least they did some time ago, don't know if that's still true). If it weren't for the licensing I would have assumed it was just another knockoff game trying to cover its lack of creativity by taking it from others.

Alien Domain is about as lazy as can be. I wouldn't be surprised if they just borrowed whatever they want. One of the worst games I've ever played.

I agree - I have stayed away from games on Facebook on general principle but tried ST:AD one evening when I had time to kill. Frankly I wish I could get that hour back. Complete waste of time.

    Target marketing.

Over time your PC picks up small tracker from various places, those trackers track were you have been, since you play STO those trackers target you with related ads.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

Dont get around the net much do ya? There are WAY worse out there. I will agree its a reskin of a very popular money sink p2win browser game genre though.

STO isn't canon, and neither are any of the books.

That game and those ads have nothing to do with Cryptic.

Theyre using images from Cryptic to advertise their game. Im aware that they have nothing to do with Crytpic. The point I was bringing up was that theres a company out there using imagery from Cryptic to draw players in. Possibly damaging Crtypics image in the process.

It's a typical pay-to-win flash quasi-mmo, right? If so, "one of the worst games I've ever played" sounds about right.

Facebook has a bad habit of pulling random related images for their ads, I know that at one point they were advertising Champions Online with an image of Captain America until Cryptic asked them to stop.

I have had this happen before where Rienhard Lohengramm's starship Hilde showed up on an add for a Pay to win space tower defense game. I have a few pictures of it buried somewhere but its probably just as embarrassing as OP's thing.
