Cryptic, check whatever you have at "198.49.243.253"

Few days ago, when I got tired from lags, I decided to run a tracert (on patchserver.crypticstudios.com, obviously). And I found that package was seriously stalled at 198.49.243.253, which should be a network switch owned by Cryptic Studios. Then I saw the notice about horrendously long maintenance that was supposed to focus on network problems.

Yet when I logged in today, lags/rubberbanding were still there to greet me and it still took 800ms+ for the package to move to 198.49.243.253. So, since I don't see any improvements, I have to ask: what did you exactly do yesterday?

Boy, howdy, do I ever have the same problem. I'll be playing, and then I'll rubberband for a bit, then I freeze, then get kicked. Sometimes it happens within 10 minutes of the last time, and sometimes I'm good for 45 minutes. But one way or another, I just know it's coming.

yeah I agree same here. everytime I change characters, transfer maps etc I get kicked. I have to cntrl alt delete the game every single time and relog back in.

I mentioned this in another thread, but ever since the so called "network enhancements", the game has gone from being SOMEWHAT playable, to COMPLETELY unplayable. The launcher loads so slowly that I can actually see the graphics being drawn. It takes another 5 minutes before I can click "Engage", probably another 3 to 4 before I can select my character, and once I've selected one, I'm lucky if I don't get disconnected right then and there. Repeat the whole ordeal and once I'm in the map, my character moves around as if she were having an epileptic seizure for about 2 minutes. Even if I stand completely still, I'll get SNR on the screen. More often than not, it'll disconnect me within 10 seconds. It saddens me to think I will probably give up on this game altogether, because of how much time I've invested in it. But it's even sadder that Cryptic obviously just doesn't give a flying TRIBBLE enough to fix their network issues.

I've not run a tracert, but I HAVE noticed lag (have NOT been rubberbanded at all, though), and a lot of it...especially where Kemocite or anything else that might be graphically intense is concerned. I just put up a post about the issue that seems to be happening with Kemocite (my lag manifests itself a bit more when that particular ability is launched), but it seems that Kemocite alone is NOT to blame for it.

Cryptic, any response on either issue?

I would run a tracer as this issue doesn't pertain to ingame graphics (aka kemocite). This is having to do with connection problems related network issues.

It's not just STO, NW users have been reporting this as well since the 13th. Here's the latest thread over there on it.

I see there are more threads on this issue here, so posting in this one as it has the most relevant info.

I sure hope they get this resolved soon, it's been going on for far too long now.

My hops are fine until I get to 198.49.243.253. This has been going on since the server maintenance on October 13th.

The hop at 198.49.243.253 is the only poor one above 50ms and it is usually tracing between 750-850ms latency.

The latency is a tad better, just not much. Here is my tracert just now:

Yup. That's where I have problems too. The only IP that gives me huge pings and the only place I get packet loss. During update days I get so much lag and disconnects. Now is more stable, but still have some disconnects, specially during loading screens.

So I just had about 330 seconds of SNR and was interested in seeing if there was anything going on. Like many of you mentioned, that hop had been a problem and Cryptic responded to a ticket I placed that it should be ok after the network maintenance. I checked Friday and sure enough, it looked fine and all weekend I played normally. Today however has been much more like the last two weeks have been. SNR and a lot of lag. I ran another tracert and this is what I saw:

Wrong server, bud. That host has nothing to do with either Cryptic or STO.

It's a spam site with a wildcard which matches anything:

Name: yomama.patchserver.com

The correct server to check is:

Thanks for the information gfreeman98. I had sent a ticket in and I was told to not use patchserver2 in this process. They asked me to try a few things and specifically point to patchserver.crypticstudios.com. I will see what I get from them,

Well, this explains why its completely unplayable for me here in Aus. My ping fluctuates wildy from 300-500ms and spikes in the thousands. It was perfectly playable before with a ping of just under 300ms.

Hi guys...

Apoligise for the long post..Hoping someone from cryptic tech sees this atleast..So I reinstalled STO with a downloadable client I had nearly two days ago, ran it thru steam and then copied the files of the downloaded installation into the steam folder of STO, but saving a copy of the .exe file (just in case the launcher goes boom.). uninstalled the downloaded client..Fired it up through steam and bingo it got passed the launcher and onto the first login screen..Logged in and it started applying a 16GB patch..logged of for the night and went to restart but to my horror it didnt get past the loader..So ran a tracert and found the culprit at 198.49.243.253..

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us, and for including all the things I would be asking for. I think the issue lies in hops 12 - 14, where the ping jump and there is 100% loss. Unfortunately these servers are neither within our networks nor your ISPs, so there's not much we can do to fix it. You can either wait until the interwebs takes a different route to our servers or can try manually selecting one of the gameplay proxies (Launcher options menu) and see if that forces it to take a different route.

First of all there wasn't anything wrong at hop 12-14..From hop 7-21 its fairly constant..At hop 22 it goes to hell..So I did a little IP search and sent all the details to our friend "TEK" showing him the IP was infact in cryptics area, along with a tracert I took just minutes ago..
