As it stands right now, Cryptic does not want players to blast through the Spec trees, so skill point gains are fairly low. Their concern is that people will blow through the tree, have nothing to do, and not play as much.
Now, in the shows, we see that it is shown that because of the crew of the Enterprise, the ship is pulled out of predicaments left and right. Wouldn't it stand to reason that our characters, being the hero of the galaxy, be in charge of an Enterprise-like crew?
So, my suggestion is this: a C-Store item something along the lines of a Crew-Ship Synergy token. What this would do, is for a reasonable amount of Zen (250 or so, I'd say), you get an account wide boost on a certain ship, where all enemies destroyed whilst in that ship grant double the Skill Points as before, and perhaps even increase the Skill Point gain from completing missions by a moderate percentage (about 25% or so). Now, since it's an account unlock on a ship, grinding out alts' spec trees would be much less painful, given they use the same ship. If not, the price is low enough to consider buying another token for another ship.
Now, what about the Consultant duty officers? I say they should be switched to boost dilithium ore gains. Why? Because dilithium ore refining is regulated by the daily refine cap. This change might not even be necessary, but I haven't looked at Consultant doffs in a while and don't want to count them out.
TLDR; Add a low cost (250 Zen) account wide unlock token for a certain ship that doubles skill point gain from destroying enemies and increases mission skill point reward.
Anyways, what say you? +1? -1?

Instead make it more like reputation.
Complete a tree on a character, get the ability to make an account bound token that will half the grind on that specific tree.
Example: Main character completes the pilot spec tree. From that point he/she can craft an account bound Pilot Tree sponsorship token (costs say 100,000 expertise). Alt character on same account pick up the sponsorship token from the account bank and uses it, from that point on every Specialisation Point that they put into Pilot gives them another free point to use on Pilot (thus halving the remaining grind for that alt in that tree but without disturbing the rate of progression in other trees).

The skill point boost avaliable in game are both rather expensive, and run out of boost after a while. My suggestion would be an account wide unlock, and meaning if you use the token on your main's ship, if your alt uses the same ship, it also received the boost. Kinda like using Upgrade tokens on T5 ships, its account wide (and like the Upgrade tokens, should be player tradable).
The idea did occur to me, but it's been suggested before, and lot of people haven't completed any trees yet. And once they do grind their way there, they have to repeat the grind yet again. I just thought a different approach would be better.
