Most convenient T6 ship for engineer profession?

With these new ships, the line between the various types of ship, started to blur.

I went through the specs of the various t6 but can't make up my mind; about what to buy for my eng toon.

Suggestion?

Well, just because you're an engineer doesn't necessarily mean you should fly engineering heavy ships.

That being said, the Phantom is a good choice, due to Reciprocity and a commander tac/Intel. Clock is built-in, and the phaser Lance is fun.

The Arbiter is also a good choice, and is a battle cruiser with a 5/3 layout, and Lt. Comm tac/Intel, and the Trait is pretty good.

The Eclipse is a good candidate if you want a full Intel cruiser, and it is a battle cruiser, so dual heavies are an option. Trait isn't that good though. Does have a built in clock though.

Personally, I'd get the Arbiter. It can pack a ton of power with that 5/3 layout, looks pretty damn good (to me, some find it quite unattractive), and has Intel seating.

The new arbiter is a good ship since it can fill in as tank or DPS ship, depending on how you set it up.

Even though my main Feddie's a Tac, I honestly say go for the Andromeda. However, the only reason that sucker's virtually invulnerable is that I got that sucker loaded up with so much stuff keeping the shields up is ridiculously easy.

I am really really really loving the Alita, but it all depends on what you personally enjoy flying.

Escorts as an engineer can be really fun, though. If you don't mind living by the seat of your pants and/or your Miracle Worker button, you can't go wrong with a Phantom, Alita, or pilot ship.

An Escort. Engineers fit perfectly in an Escort, believe it or not.

ENG's are often derided as a captain class because their captain abilities aren't as direct in damage output like TAC and even SCI Captains are. What they do have though is unsurpassed survivability, unrivaled power management.

In a Cruiser, you already should be doing well in power levels as well as survivability.

In an Escort, they bring lots of firepower but not necessarily that Cruiser level of hull, shields, and ENG ability slots.

So what do you get when you stuff that ENG in an Escort? The Escort performs better with ENG Captain's higher power levels and benefits from the survivability like Miracle Worker, RSF, Engineering Fleet. The Escort in turn gives back the ENG Captain lots of toys to play with: 7 weapon slots (typically, a few have 8), Cmdr TAC stations and more, 5 TAC Consoles, unsurpassed speed/inertia/turn rates that no Science Vessel or Cruiser can ever match.

Take a look at the sheer variety of Escorts out there to cater to your ENG. Some are very minimal in ENG (T5 Defiant). Some have LtCmdr SCI stations (SCI Pilot Ships, T5 Prometheus). Some have LtCmdr ENG stations (Akira, ENG Pilot Ships). Some that may let you have a LtCmdr SCI *and* ENG stations (T5 Tempest for example). Some have very flexible BOFF stations to let you have decide how far to take them into TAC, ENG, SCI (like T6 Veteran DDs).

It's the same kind of captain class to ship synergy that you find some TAC Captains using TAC Cruisers. TAC Captains bring all kinds of offensive boosts but have poor built in survivability. Cruisers are the reverse in that. Stuff a TAC Captain in a good TAC Cruiser, then he has a sturdy ship with the extra subsystem power, 8 weapon slots. The TAC Cruiser may not have as much TAC ability slots as an Escort, but the TAC Captain has all kinds of tools to wring out attack power.

Basically any tactical cruiser that has a good number of tactical slots and science slots.
When you see "TRIBBLE" in my posts, it's because I manually typed "TRIBBLE" and censored myself.

My personal preference at tier 6 for a fed engineer is the Andromeda (Galaxy skin) Ship is tanky and does respectable DPS (Comes with 3 Science console slots so has option to boost dmg potential by adding either 3 embassy consoles or the new research consoles or a combo of both, most of the other cruisers bar i think the Guardian only come with 1/2 science console slots .
Another choice is the Eclipse not quite as tanky or durable but using Safety Overrides with FAW or Surgical strikes make this ship a very nice dps beam boat and i find Intel space abilities a lot more fun than Command as i like blowing things up asap.
I do own the Arbiter but only use the trait from that ship as i can't stand the model and also not a fan of the Avenger skin either. (Form and looks are just as important as function for me when it comes to starships and 99% of Cryptic's designs just don't do it for me)
