Red Matter

I just watched the first JJ Trek today and had a brainwave. Why aren't we using red matter on the Iconians? Like, just open up gates to their spheres, toss a red matter bomb through, and watch the chaos ensue. No time travel, no nasty paradoxes. It's pretty much an "I Win" button for the war. No amount of super high tech, magic staff carrying, herald nonsense can trump an artificial black hole.
Thoughts?

Probably the same reason we don't use Trilithium Torpedoes. We don't want to use weapons so powerful we destroy ourselves in the process. Then again we're willing to use the Krenim Weapon...

The only instance of Red Matter in the game is the ship device Red Matter Capacitor.

I believe It's been stated that if they wanted to, the Iconians could warp a star to any location they wanted via their gates, though they wouldn't likely do so due to the catastrophic damage it would cause to the originating system (the Iconians want to rule, not destroy). Potentially they could do the same with a Red-Matter-initiated black hole.

The universe has a wonderful sense of humor. The trick is learning how to take a joke.

The cost in lives and materiel of the Iconian War has been catastrophic; Millions (billions?) dead, hundreds or thousands of ships and stations destroyed, planets razed (perhaps irrevisibly). The goal is no longer to end the war, but prevent it altogether.

I'm not necessarily defending use of the Krenim Weapon (used irresponsibly, it could still do more damage than the entirety of the Iconian War), but I do understand why it's preferrable to red matter bombs or trilithium torpedoes in the characters' eyes; pock-marking a ruined galaxy with hundreds of massive new gravitational anomalies would be the bitterest of phyrric victories.

Maybe the Jellyfish had ALL the Red Matter they were able to produce and they can't make anymore?

No it's not. We already have Red Matter ingame. For the same reason we have the Romulan head tattoos, Sierra 1 uniforms, assimilated Romulan ships, the Vault, and if we so desired the Jellyfish. They all appeared in the 'Countdown' comic which Cryptic has rights to reproduce the content from.

JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.

Because were being railroaded blindly into the worst plot device, and whoever wrote iconian war made up their mind about it.

I am glad that we are getting a new writer.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

some of the same forgotten Phlebtonium I keep pointing out as alternatives to this ridiculous weapon. We have options, we just refuse to recognize them.

Maybe they tuned into the Livestream instead, and are still trying to decide how to use the only one they have access to amongst all those possible recipients...

Are you sure we should use it on that Iconian Sphere?
What if using it on a different Iconian Sphere would be more effective?
You know we can't ever reclaim it, right?

Wait... what do you mean the KDF has it? Who the hell told you to claim it on that character!?! banghead.gif

I'm surprised no one mentioned the Genesis Device. Granted it probably doesn't have the power to take out a Dyson Sphere, but still... someone hasn't mentioned this little piece of tech powered by Protomatter.
