dont get me wrong, im one for arcady gameplay, take world of craptanks for example. but...
i believe there is something missing from the damage system, something lacking.. a bit of realisim.
now by damage system i am NOT talking about weapon damage( beam array = 400dmg or some TRIBBLE), no im not talking about that, game has become about dps too much for me to comment on that.
no i mean the damage, impulse, shields, weapon etc etc!
so far the current system is based on damage when you die, which is a bit weird since if you die, theres nothing left to damage. (will come back to that in a mo) its all and good in one way, since your ship is fine in combat till you take damage after dying, now with the iconian war thunder ramming AI (bloody raiders) dying happens alot i have notice. therefore damage is being done to ships because they are dying. (ive died alot which is weird for me XD)
i think that when your shields go down on your ship, and the same on ground. all weapons have a chance of doing critical damage to you. for example, your in your ship. (Enterprise E for example) you lose your rear shield arc, now if a energy weapon hits that area, there is a chance for engine, life support and maybe reactor damage. now if a torp hits, there is a LARGER chance for critical damage. plus i believe that the core. if critically damaged enough should go into a meltdown and blow up the ship. visual damage could also be altered to go with this new system.
if the main hull of your ship is damaged, there is a chance of deflector malfunctions and since watching first contact, deflectors seem to be full of antiprotons, so i think if the deflector is hit critically enough, that too should result in a ship detonation. each shield face covers critical components, some on all faces others on one or two, i also believe that bridge officers should be affected by damage too, if the front of the shield goes and the saucer is hit, i think that there should be bridge officer timeouts and even incapacitation for a prolonged time.
this damage system if implemented would give the game a realistic kick up the butt which i think me and many other players may enjoy, it would also give more use to the repair guys around peoples homeworlds.
some people may say "no damage should only be done on advance/ elites" heres my counter for you

advanced has like a 40% more chance of getting damage during combat after shield depletion and elites. ohh have fun with that, perhaps a 70-80% increase to chance for critical damage (sounds too OP? ok maybe 60%

) with normal battles with less than 10% from the levels of 0-20, 10%-15% from 30-40 and 20% from 50+ for the standard critical chance.
i do hope people like this idea, i sure would love to see it implemented

I knew using Kinetics would be playing the game on hard mode, but what I didn't realize was how bad the deck is stacked against Kinetics.

yup that video is basically what i mean, shields go down. and bang ship damage! i like the resolute though. didnt think it would be there XD (t6 excelsior)
As for realism, both the game and the shows it's based on are fiction, and to me therefore overrated. Some degree of logic certainly should apply, but this is a fictional game. Sometimes logic should give way to fun. There is nothing fun about being instavaped or permanently paralyzed, to me what scared me off from pvp, never to return. This here would have every new player in the game, spending the first hour scratching their head, the second hour banging the keyboard, and the third hour uninstalling the game, thinking that's 3 hours of my life I'm never getting back.
but just think of it, right now you lose your shields and your ship is like "i have no components for you to hit mwahahaha" when you pop its like " my ships dead... but its ok!! only the sickbay was damaged" im there like o.O how??
i know people, mostly in my armada who pride themselves with such high hull points their dont care about low shield hp. surely with this system people would start focusing more on their shields. throughout the game.
Also, if you noticed in the first part, the deflector shields, actually deflected the photon torpedo!
