I just recently upgraded a Phaser Split Beam Rifle from the R&D system. All excited in upgrading the weapon I've been wanting for a while,..to my dismay when I get it to MK X, I find these ugly hologram graphics appeared on it. The Phaser Rifle looked so cannon before the upgrade. Now it looks like cheesy TRIBBLE. Has this been brought up before? How many of you like/disliked the upgraded look of your R&D weapons? I wish I could take a poll to get it changed. At least enable/disable visuals like on space equipment.

Though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I'm pretty fond of how in general the Ground KDF Fleet Weapons look. They look better than the standard Mk XI+ weapons and not have the stupid spikes, blades that the standards do. Canon-wise, Klingon ranged weapons did not have those features throughout the entirety of Star Trek.

You should see the standard Mk XI+ Disruptor Pistols. They have dual blades sticking out the sides that are bigger than the pistol itself. It looks hilarious when you enable viewable holstered weapons.

If you think that's bad, take a look at the TR 116. All that grinding for one of those gaudy high MK phaser rifles with the barrel covered in pieces of broken glass, just with different stats-they didn't bother to give it a model that looks like the TR 116 from the show. Even though the craftable version is a rerelease of the older version.

But the least they could do is remove those silly holograms they put on them
They really don't have a lucky hand with canon stuff.

To be honest, the TV show couldn't make up it's mind on both types of phaser rifles in Voyager if they were going to be bolts or beams. The First Contact rifle and the compression rifle fire both types at different times. It's just inconsistent VFX work.
But STOs weapons offer two fire modi.
If canon now shows a weapon which 4 out of 5 times on screen fires a beam and 1 out of 5 times is shown firing singular bolts, how can this weapon be translated into STO? The answer is obvious: Primary fire: Auto-Bolts, Secondary fire: Airstrike! ... wait, what?...
Yes, there's also the wide-beam, but fo that take a look at the Type-III (TNG) - primary fire beam, secondary fire wide-beam. But we don't have that. The first contact rifle (the DS9 TM identifies as a Type-III variant but I can't recall the name, something like Type-IIIa1 or something) also could be implemented this way. Primary bolts, secondary beams.

however my character is a slightly petite, pink haired female engineer,
and the regular MACO rifle looks comical with her holding it. it's far too large for her frame
I ended up getting the Dyson set and giving my MACO set to my Vulcan Male BoFF, Zelpok.
"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."
