Anyone else get gameclient.exe when trying to load into the game. This happens when trying to go from the Iconian war screen to the char screen.

Well that's it for me, rebooting computer and force verifying files does not work and I'm not doing this everyday. This problem came with yesterdays patch, I shouldn't have to leave the game up all the time if I get lucky and get in like yesterday.

It could be a video driver issue, or some other hardware or software conflict on your system causing the crash, but without any specs or better a posted DXDiag report; it's impossible to assist in any troubleshooting here.

well what ever changed caused a issue with my low spec PC as well, where occasionally a minor error would restart the vid driver , to now with it locking up after the Iconoian war splash . though force verify seemed to let it load , was that a coincidence or the changes made messed up more . i had fleet mates have MORE Crashes while playing last night and they have newer PCs while I had a older machine that struggles with some content ive never had the client lock up where its just not responding , and other than connection loss to server , never had a CTD .
Systems ppl at cryptic have to realize any hardware that worked a couple of yrs ago should continue to work forward on , seeing what the posted min specs are . till they DROP STO 2 . a expansion shouldn't alienate players with lower specs .

get the launcher up, in options set it to safe mode and see if you can load. If you can load the game, goto options and to video card. See if you are using automatic and if so, try switching it to directx9. Now SUPPOSEDLY yesterdays patch put in a fix for directx crashes, but its also possible that it made some 'special' changes too.

Thank you, I was able to load in safe mode. I haven't been able to make the directx option to stay, once I log out it goes back to automatic but at least I can get in.

while "Safe mode" is a stop gap measure at best , its not optimal for playing the game , its mainly for trouble shooting and such , from what i understand certain aspects of game features are not available in "Safe mode" so thats not really a solution but showing that there is something wrong with the advanced game setup . ill say this for me the game loaded fine, till this "FIX" to Direct X drivers . so its something with how the client loads the GFX settings , maybe we need a more robust way of configuring in the launcher rather than just safe mode .

I think I got it. I loaded to the char screen in safe mode and changed the settings directx9 then backed out without maximizing the window or logging into a specific character. This seems to have fixed it since I logged in without checking safe mode this last couple of times.

Edit: Also Updated my video drivers

Darkhorse281, this all sounds related to an issue we're discussing here: http://www.arcgames.com/en/forums#/discussion/1196987/sto-keeps-trying-to-force-me-to-use-directx-11-and-freezes-every-time

Now, when you said that you "backed out without maximizing the window or logging into a specific character", how exactly did you 'back out'? Did you close the windowed game completely and then restart the launcher without problems? Please clarify what you meant by 'backed out'.

Update: Well, I fiddled, per your suggestion darkhorse281, and figured out how to 'back out'. And it worked...sorta. The great news is that 'backing out' allowed me to exit the game, restart the launcher (sans 'Safe Mode' and a 'Command Line' fix) and actually launch the game without problems in regular play mode. The bad news is that it doesn't stick upon exiting again.

First time I tried, I exited the game from normal mode, fullscreen set and all my in-game GFX settings tweaked accordingly, and it crashed upon restarting the launcher, at the Iconian War splash screen.

Tried a slightly different approach the second go. Did the whole 'Safe Mode' and 'Command Line' routine again. 'Backed out', in Windowed mode again. Exited from there. Restarted the launcher and logged in again without problems. Played for a bit. Then returned to the Character Select screen, reset screen mode to 'Windowed', hit 'Back', then 'Exit'. Restarted the launcher and logged in and simply crashed at the Iconian War splash page again.

At the very least, we've now determined how to at least get the game into 'Normal Mode', rather than 'Safe Mode'. Still not able to permanently make that stick though and I think that's were a fix from Cryptic will have to rid us of this problem.

Exactly instead of logging into a character I changed the graphic setting to Direct3d 9 in the display tab and logged out and hit exit then restarted with the launcher. It has changed back to auto on me once since I tried this.
