Doff "Veteran" is (I think) from achieving tier 4 in Tactical doff assignments. Its a title you can display above your characters name in game.

Veterancy is determined by how many days you've payed, and then after 100 days, and in 100 day intervals up till 1000 you get different rewards.
The quick and dirty way to get all the rewards is LTS these days...

However, it's not entirely true... You can dish in a large amount of cash, and earn 1000 days in 1 second.
