Shouldn't it be the Year FROM Hell?

...or did they just not want to pay Richard Lewis a royalty?

    What?

Year of hell... Thats what the Voyager episode is called... Not sure where the "From" comes from?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I know all that, but when most people refer to things of demonic origin, they say it's FROM hell. Noone ever said they had the boss OF hell.

Richard Lewis said he popularized the phrase "...from hell". Just sayin'. He could use the money. ;)

Simple. Because "The year from hell" doesnt make any sense at all. That for a start lol.

No it dosen't. It's neither grammatically or factually correct.

But in simplest terms: It was a year of hellishness for the Voyager crew, hence the "Year of hell".

The year is not Satans spawn that came to annihilate the world. Calling it the "Year from hell" would be flawed on any kind of analysis you could run on it.

In fact, having to even elaborate on this in itself is nuts.

A year from hell implies the year somehow originated there. But normally years don't move from one place to another place.
A boss however might however be a creature from hell that escaped in our world and became your boss.

"Year of Hell" means that the year seemed to be like living a year in hell.

"Boss of Hell" would indicate the boss is of hell, e.g. he commands hell. Normally there is just one boss of hell.
A Boss from Hell however - he might be your boss, but he acts as if he's from hell - a terrible person probably, difficult to work under.

But it's not a year of demonic ORIGIN. The year itself WAS Hell. It didn't come from hell, it was hell itself. As such, Year OF Hell, not Year FROM Hell.

Also, year from hell seems past tense, while year of hell would be present tense!!!

At least I believe this would be correct!

They say "quarter of five" instead of "quarter to five" on the East coast if you want to talk about making no sense.

"Boss of Hell" would indicate the boss is of hell, e.g. he commands hell. Normally there is just one boss of hell.

that depends entirely which hell you're referring to, as there's more than one and some have multiple bosses

Like Taco said. It was a year of Hell as full of it. Like your Boss or Dog of Hell. If it was from Hell, it came from it like a place of origin.

I would've been ok with this intro: "Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Years of Our TRIBBLE."
