With all the new ships coming out I was think of a few tricks I would like to see on some ships, but then I thought which is better a trick or a trait.
To clairify what I mean by trick is something like the Dyson destroyer. Say the T6 flagships came out with the ability to switch modes but all three, so it could do engi, tac, and sci, instead of a trait.
Would something like this be better, game breaking, or just a flash in the pan?

The rom & KDF DSDs are the only ones left simply because red & green don't have much of a choice in the sci department. Other gimmick ships like the Promethues, Hakoona, Tempest are pretty much extinct.
Srsly I've seen more non-fleet star cruisers these days than the 3 I mentioned above combined.
How is the Tempest a Gimmick Ship? I can see it for all the rest of the examples, but the Fleet Patrol Escort Refit is still one of the most potent Escorts and still quite popular. Even it's console is surprisingly powerful when using a Phaser Build.
I still see Tempest class Escorts all the time, in fact I frequently fly one.
As for the 'Trick or Trait' topic, I'm definitely more in favor of traits. I have thought for a while that Traits should be sold seperately for a reduced cost so we didn't have to buy ships we weren't going to fly just to get the trait.
How is the Prometheus a gimmick ship?...then that makes all ships that can separate a gimmick ship..including the T6 Explorer and the upcoming T6 Dreadnoughts.
If people don't play the Prometheus it isn't because of the MVAM console, it's because there are better ships with better boff slotting, universals and new specialization slots...the AE is nothing but tac slots...which is something you just don't need with Reciprocity.
This. ^^^^^
Doesn't the Tempest hold the fed dps record? Doesn't seem very gimmicky to me.
... Or is that it's gimmick.
Support 90 degree arc limitation on BFaW! Save our ships from looking like flying disco balls of dumb!
Yes.. yes it does.
