Heh...and I was told by 'experts' putting points/consoles in eps was a waste of time and resources...
Guess I need to do a little remodelling of my energy builds (and learn to trust my instinct)
Putting max points into EPS has been a thing for years, well at least for experts i've know (min/maxers, DPSers, Drain Builds, etc...). Like i said in the vid: it's poorly understood or misunderstood by a lot of players, including "experts".
Just to bring this up again; the bulk of this knowledge came from @agresiel and @saxfire2; who spent a lot of hours testing EPS and over-capping to figure out how it works. The spread sheet that i showed is based on a spreadsheet agresiel did 9 months ago.
Monotone efficiency, has increased by a factor of 22.5%! You have a deep bassy voice sarcasm, no need to keep a flat monotone speaking level, when describing things in your videos, otherwise good video as always!
EPS originally gave an explicit boost to weapon subsystem recharge, then it was dropped, which is when most of the experts (without scare quotes) said it was more effective to spend the skill points elsewhere. The current benefit (and focus of the video) is speed of transferring power, which is subtle but important difference. I mean, really, it wasn't until Plasmonic Leech become available to Feds that it probably even mattered at all.
What about the Fleet warpcores? I thought they improved the power transfer rate.
The feet spire cores do provided a 66% buff, which equates to about 3.3 power transfer rate. There are also fleet mine cores with an [EPS] mod that at mk 14 gives 20%, which would be a buff of 1 power transfer rate.
Well, I put this into practice, bumped my eps up to 24.8 ptr and wow, what a difference on my joke dbb fawvette ship - it was chewing through the tholians on cca like they were paper (compared to the sheet metal of previously)
Thanks for the info
I'm an Arc user? Yeah, right..I'd rather eat a chainsaw, blade first
While this is a good video with good explanation, it could have done some actual demonstration, to show the way power levels move during the firing sequence with some different EPS rates.
So if you use Cruiser Weapon Command + Arbiter Trait + Bounty Hunter Lobi Console and you keep your weapons at 125 and add in Plasmonic Leech and Supremacy and one EPTW then you should maintain perfect power levels throughout a firing cycle? Even with FAW? Assuming of course you have a 400% EPS rating... What's the max EPS you would need assuming the above mentioned variables? Would there be a reason to go past 400%? Because if you combine a Fleet Plasma-Core with a certain set bonus you could reach 500% pretty easily. I believe the MACO and/or Breen sets offer EPS as their 2-piece bonus.
So Kineic Cutting beam and Borg Console aren't useful anymore?
Pushing your EPS to these high levels is another option instead of having to have the borg console and cutter on every build. Wouldn't say they are not useful anymore, just not mandatory.

I'll take this time to say "I told you so" to all of those people who told me I was crazy for putting points into EPS.
They told me I was crazy for A2B sci ships too, while I was hitting 20k pre DR... It's all about the timing... (I don't bother anymore, thank you Reciprocity+All hands on deck...)
Be careful who you believe, even the "experts" have things they need to learn.
Thanks for the math!

Yeah. When STO launched, weapons power recovery was a whole lot slower and not near instantaneous like now. Nothing at all compared to today. Back then, when a ship made an attack with a bunch of DHCs, long before a single cycle of CRF/CSV was done, weapons power was low and it took ages to recover. Beamboating like today was not as easily feasible as it is now due to the massive drain and slower power recovery.
In those very early days of STO, players were given a choice if they wanted to Pew-Pew harder, sooner. EPS Consoles, anything boosting EPS, at the cost of other important consoles. Considering this was a time when 9 consoles were the max on any ship, it was a heavy price to pay if you wanted the energy weapons performance.
Originally, you'll take your ship on an attack run with energy weapons, then have to break off to recover weapons power, then come again. This kept DPS in check. Great EPS made the whole thing easier and much quicker to come back in the fight. At the cost of valuable console space.
When I left the game, it was still like this. When I came back about 1.5-2 years later, it acted the way things are now. Very massive change. Ships were now able to spam energy weapons non-stop with little drop off in performance and no downtime. That was impossible originally.

Fantastic video and explanation. Thank you for putting it together.
Given what you have done to RCS [EPS] prices, I'm just glad I got mine a long time ago
there is no way that i change again my skills, i don't want to spend 10€ again, just for 3-4 skill points, + the 2 epic consoles (eng and sci) that you use, are currently unaffordable at mk II.
but, thx for the explanations; it is always interesting to know how things work.

You talking about the engineering console? My main hit lvl15 engineering I could possibly craft you some..
about the build, I've seen how potent partgen can be, makes science builds which use it pretty powerful.

I opened a new discussion thread to use as a testing environment for your "attempted" BB Code.
Screen 1: I pasted your code in to the text box just like you had it written. I did not change anything.
Screen 2: To see how Vanilla would parse that code without me doing anything, I clicked on the Preview button. As soon as the Preview came up, your text was formatted correctly in bb code, the way you want it to look.
Screen 3: Try taking the Quote Symbols OUT of your url's inside your brackets!! (but remove the extra spaces I'm putting in this example to create a "non-functioning" example for you here.)

There are many different warp core options some do some don't. Check mods carefully before purchasing.

Ah, ok
Well, this is a place where 5% only sometimes means 5%. It often ends up being something like 18% or even 2%.
Cryptic math is... cryptic.
