Let our captains earn a customized Attack Pattern!

Shon has Shon Six. Tuvok has some Omega Tuvok thing. So, Why not allow our captains, as a long term goal, to earn an attack pattern named after them?

The general benefits offered by this attack pattern would be the same, or maybe one of several choices. but it would be either nameable by the player, or named after their captain's last or first name (player's choice)

This would be a long term character goal similar to a rep project, and go in a space reputation ability active slot.

ALL factions would have access to this feature on level 60 characters.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

    It is a neat idea, but i am more afraid of all the problems it will carry. Specially bugs on every attack pattern skill lol. We have already tooooo many bugs on skills and abilities to threw even more. Or other things. But having a "My captain is a bad as.ss" pattern will be really cool xD.

    What about just allowing that character to re-name an existing attack pattern they have?

    If custom attack patterns are not doable, maybe a wider variety of attack patterns. For example, perhaps an attack pattern Sierra: next torpedo attack launches 4 with increased damage to both sheilds and hull with some increased maneuverability for the duration. The point is there are plenty of greek letters to work with and abilities that can be enhanced.

    I like the idea. But they should only do it after they figure out the pick your own mods in crafting, that way you could use a "crafting" type system to make the attack pattern. Say give us four or five powers for our pattern. And maybe make a way we could make them into manuals, so we could trade them to other player.

    A new Attack Pattern would be nice. Though it wouldn't necessarily need to be (new). Perhaps create a specific UI option to check off. Which tells the UI to display all Starship Attack Patterns - as well as the Dispersal Patterns - using our Captain's last name within local tooltips and hotkeys. For me, Attack Pattern Omega would display on my end as Attack Pattern Meese Omega. But only on my UI.

    I love the general concept but... here's the question... what kinda grind would you lock it behind? Cause cryptic doesn't give things you don't have to grind for.

    Don't Shon and Worf both get 'custom' attack patterns in Sphere of Influence that are basically just two other patterns put together? It might be the 'lazy' way out, but giving us that option (along with putting the toon's name in the power name, of course) might make this idea feasible without creating balance and coding nightmares.

    This is probably the most realistic implementation, even if a little underwhelming in terms of delivery.

    If it isn't based on existing attack patterns, why couldn't science and engineering captains get it, too? By level 60, most STO characters have seen more combat (cannonically over a span shorter than two years!) than most Starfleet officers see across an entire career; if they haven't picked up a trick or two for space combat after all that just because they took a few different classes at the Academy (or in the case of Romulan characters, without any real conceit as to why they have the skills they do at all!), then they weren't paying attention.

    Outside of renaming current attack patterns, there would be no way to do this properly and balance it, since anyone who would create one would just create the best possibly combinations of buffs and debuffs for their attack patterns. So, I'd have to go with the side of a flat no.

    I think you misunderstand in what way I meant customizable. It would be one of a preset few, or even a single pattern, designed by the devs.

    The unique part would be the name. this would be a customization option with the main objective being adding to immersion and fun.

    And make said attack pattern static and not scaling on attack patterns skill for good measure if you're worried about that. I doubt that would be needed though.

    My main is an engineer. I still have 6 points in attack patterns skill and occasionally use attack patterns. Same with my science captains.

    Attack patterns help anyone.

    Since when does a new attack pattern have to be better than the others? Give it something unique.

    It wouldn't really add immersion or fun, since a realistic attack pattern would involve certain fake outs, movements and such, which the game obviously can't simulate. Such as the Picard Maneuver, using a high warp instant burst to create a fake shadow which would be an attack penalty on target and attack bonus to user. The immersion factor would be nil either way, since outside of you, no one else would see it, and outside of something monumental, someone would just point out you just renamed attack pattern beta.

    If your ship can afford the luxury of loading an Attack Pattern, why would you ever slot an Attack Pattern that's inferior to an existing one?

    For example, if there's some Attack Pattern that's kind of like APO but weaker, why would you ever slot that weaker Attack Pattern? There's nowhere to go but up, otherwise that new ability is useless.
