Tight arce newbies of STO rejoice, here is a dirt cheap build for you to use

I created Delta Recruit - Fed Sci
I don't want to pay for same gear again
My ship is useless and I can't farm

Here's a cheap build I used to get started

I started with an Intel Phantom - or in true tight arrrrce fashion, stick with the free promethus escort you were given

4 x Romulan Plasma DBB from rep - FREE

1 x KCB - 15000 Dil

5x plasma tact console - FREE from grind

Jemhadar impulse engine - FREE

Warp core [X-W] - free from grind

Fire at Will III - 100k EC

Attack pattern B III - 150k EC

EPTW II or III - no idea

Energy Siphon - to get a weapon cost reduction when used in conjunction with Greedy Emitter (free with Ferengi ship which is ALSO FREEEEEEEE)

Tackyon Beam - same cra p as above

Add it all togther, spam lots and you'll get around 4-5 k dps worth of damage, utterly useless when farming.

Add all skill points to energy weapons damage
Add remaining point to warp core to get extra power

Play again, spam some more spacebars and you'll get 8-10k DPS, now you can farm more efficiently

ALL THAT for 250K EC and 15000 Dil and a few Omega marks

Now you can stop with the "I play only to heal" horse faeces and contribute to the game so that doesn't last a bluddy whole hour when it can be done in 10 min.

Thank you for telling us this. I'm sure that somebody would be pleased that they can possibly join the ranks of the "DPS worthy" with a touch of proper research (what mission must I spam for those Rom Plasmas again?).

Though you forgot to address a few things, like what else to slot in those aft weapon slots. I saw KCB, but what, no Ancient Omni and Exchanged up Omni-Plasma? Do you stuff an Omega Torp or Romulan Hyper Plasma to get a 2 or 3 piece bonus? Any critical consoles besides the ground up plasma boosters, like assimilated? Any deflector / shield would do, or would the Romulan/Reman sets be a goal?

And who said that I was ever given a free promethius class? Well, I'll be honest, my Feddie Tac probably still has one in the shipyards, however, every one of my Feddie Scis has the Luna from L40 token, and my Engie has the Sovvy. No commentary for the KDF or Rommies of the world? Nice to know that your advice is par excellance for someone who has already made their choices. Especially in light of the fact that many people elect to ditch on the whole Risa race thing. Chaser that with the fact that many are F2P and goofed up that whole "put all skill points into energy weapons and warp cores" bit? More dil to grind zen for a respec token?

Nitpicks aside, I find your reasoning for this, lacking. Personally, I fly a Sci & CC build because of people like you. I mean, your DPS is obviously unable to carry a team through, say, ISA in 10 minutes, so when some bonehead follows your advice to the letter, I can take my "paltry" 9k DPS away from the transformer area so that I can throw a GW III on those nanites giving you a whole 30-45 extra seconds to blast those generators and transformer because said FaW spam led to the gateway "prematurely inserting" nanite spheres into the map.

If your DPS is "good enough" to save a team from this "issue", your DPS is "good enough" to carry the team "in your reasonable timeframe". If you want to rant about other's DPS, try to make sure yours is of a quality that makes said rant almost obsolete. Either that, or look to the hundreds of other threads for "more proper" advice, such as...

    wait for it...

Use your fleet and/or channels to private match it and avoid the issue in the first place.

Thank you for your time and utter pile of horse droppings about a mission that takes an hour. My experience with ISA is that even the most skilled but utterly DPS lacking team (my then 6k DPS Vesta being the aggro magnet of the mission levels of utter lack of DPS) can complete most STFs in maybe 30 minutes if they're actually trying... Usually it's only 18 to 20 instead of 10...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Well I found a skill/gear build for my science officer which can smoke borg cubes in seconds, for around 2,500,000 EC but it relies more on high partgen/flowcap skill, shield drain and debuffs. DPS is a very situational thing.

"He shall be my finest warrior, this generic man who was forced upon me.
Like a badass I shall make him look, and in the furnace of war I shall forge him.
he shall be of iron will and steely sinew.
In great armour I shall clad him and with the mightiest weapons he shall be armed.
He will be untouched by plague or disease; no sickness shall blight him.
He shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best him in battle.
He is my answer to cryptic logic, he is the Defender of my Romulan Crew.
He is Tovan Khev... and he shall know no fear."

This is about farming efficiently, there are other people playing in the game doing the same. Unless you enjoy sitting in the a game shooting at a borg cube doing no damage for 30 minutes.

I didn't forget, they weren't required, what ever was listed are the only items on the ship. The theme is for people whole REALLY don't have the currency to spend or understand the finer points in the complicated setup. [/quote]

I don't particularly care what you were given, or the fact you don't use tac vessels. This was my quickest way of getting some decent damage output without spending much so I could start farming for dil for my Delta recruit. KDF Rommies? probably the same, get the Nandi ship or any other ship with lt com or commander tac bridge officer slot.

Yes well, the reasoning is lacking is because reasoning isn't given. I spent the last week playing around withe a cheap build and maybe somewhere someone would find it useful without the typical "buy the nukara gear for 2 set bonus and the rom deflector and crit d x4 beam etc etc". THere's no need for any reasoning, it's here, use if you want, discard it if you don't want.

What about the other queues like Khitomer and the cure that does require you to have some sort of damage output to complete. The last sentence rant was more frustration after certain people do nothing except pop afew heals and everyone else left to finish up. Some people don't want to have to sit for hours to grind their daily cap limit.

Anyway, it is what it is, use it or discard it.

You're not actually interested in helping anyone with the way you laid this out.

And most of your "free" isn't free. Reputation grinds are not "free" gear, neither is doing the same thing for 25 days free.

Finally the attitude makes this useless. If I was new and read this, I wouldn't take a word of your advice.

Oh my!! Another blah blah blah DPS blah blah blah epeen slugfest. Will they ever end? No, seriously, will they ever end? They never turn out well.
