Low FPS with High-end system

Since the last couple of patches, the game is laggy. I used to be able to run around on the ground and fight in space with no problems. I checked ping status using traceroute and every thing checks out okay. I can play other games just fine but not STO for some reason. I have also tried lowering graphics setting and no dice. The lag stays the same on some maps and gets worse on Defera, Quonos, and ESD. Any have any suggestions?

First, double check that it is your FPS that is slow, not your connection. The game has been laggy for many for like a month or so. Something to do with all the new starship abilities. (Or something like that.)

"/showfps 1" should bring up FPS in the top right. If it is actually your FPS that is slow and not your connection, you might try disabling dynamic lighting.

I've got a decently beasty system: core I7 4770k, 16gb ram, GTX 770, blah blah. However this four year old game lags unless I have dynamic lighting turned off. Once that is down, i can max out all the other setting and it runs fine.

That's something to try anyways. Good luck. :)

Thank you for the reply. I have tried changing around the settings from high to off and nothing seems to change. I'll try the /showfps 1 command again. The last time I tried I didn't see any numbers popping up anywhere on the screen. I'll take a harder look.

    I have a AMD R9 270, FX-8350 and 8 GB RAM

Ok, so as of the last patch, I guess /showfps 1 isn't working. Don't ask me why, I swear it used to. :)

You can do /netgraph 1 to show your in game ping. If it's <150ish, you should be good connection wise.

Do you get low frames in every single zone, or is it just space missions? If it's in every zone, it's probably something to do with your card. Did you update to the latest drivers and all that?

Also, if you noticed it was a recent update on the driver that caused the graphical problems, you could try rolling back.

I did the netgraph command and the numbers (ping) bounce anywhere between 123 to 250. I'll try and rollback the driver.
