Game Crash/Freeze

Oops, posted this in the wrong area. Re-posting where it belongs, lol

First off, here's my computer specs -
Self Built
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit SP1
ASUS M4A78L-M mobo
AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0GHz
Diamond AMD Radeon R7 240 2GB
4GB RAM

Noth the 'latest and greatest', but lets me play STO at max settings @ 50fps :)

So, evidently, a pre-patch started last night. Now I'm having issues. Keep in mind nothing has changed on my computer (hardware or software, except for a new monitor) from the time I installed Windows 7 (3/1/2015) until now.

So here's the problem. Yesterday, I got on and played from about 3pm to 8pm pst. No issues as usual. Then got back on around 10pm. Started the next mission in the list, Mine Enemy. Got through the space and initial ground part just fine, but as soon as I go into the mines and start running around, my game freezes and crashes. Reloaded STO and went back to the mission, which started me in the mines, same thing happens. Tried Force Verifying files, passes. Unchecked Patch on-demand, same issues. Upon digging through Windows Event Viewer, I find this which was created from the crash -

Faulting application name: GameClient.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5522f1f0
Faulting module name: atidxx32.dll, version: 8.17.10.581, time stamp: 0x551b0003
Exception code: 0xc0000005
Fault offset: 0x00459f5f
Faulting process id: 0xe20
Faulting application start time: 0x01d07734819769fb
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live\GameClient.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\atidxx32.dll
Report Id: 90b82a27-e328-11e4-8630-90e6baa645be

Side note - atidxx32.dll is a Radeon DirectX 11 Driver.

So, I thought it might be my video card drivers and I update them, same issue. Then I tried the latest beta drivers, same issue.

A fellow fleet mate plays on 2 computers (not at the same time, lol). His main computer hasn't done the pre-patch yet and has no issues, but once he got on his other one that has done it, he is experiencing pixel/shader problems.

Now, what I'm wondering is, are our problems related to this pre-patching? Anyone else having problems as well? Solutions?

Try and run on Dx 9 instead of 11.

I did change to DX 9, took a big drop in fps, switched to DX 9ex and it's running smoother now. No freezes or crashes so far. I'm wondering, with the sector map revamp & season 10 coming, that something in the pre-patch messed up the ability to run in DX 11.

    Good you got it running.

DX 11 have been pretty unstable and the cause for many issues lately. So wouldn't surprise me if it where the case.
Never the less, I'm still running in DX 11 without too many issues. Flickering and so are the bad optimization, but the crashes still ocour once in a while. Think it's going to be like this till they can get the game going on a new engine.

What really sucks about this, is back in February I got an SSD, video card and more RAM (everything was a fresh install Mar 1st) and was kind of excited to be able to play at max settings instead of medium. Everything looked so good, and now I had to drop a couple settings down to get better fps. Hopefully this will get fixed before season 10 drops.

Think there's a bigger chance that much of it will be fixed with the launch of S10.
Got myself a better computer, just for this game, but it never actually made a difference. But can only hope in time. :)
