I cant say with certainty that STO is the root cause. All I can say is the only time this happens is when STO is involved.
Sometimes when the game is loading, right when its about to the load the character select screen my computer shuts down.
I don't mean it crashes me and I reboot. I mean the computer powers off. Generally that means there was some kind of serious error. I know I have some things set to just shut down should they occur.
When I do reboot I don't get any kind of windows message like "you are recovering from a serious error blah blah".
This could be a hardware thing, or some new NVidia driver issue. But it only happens to me when I load STO and then in the same spot generally.
It happens about every couple of weeks and I just power back up and reboot and everything is fine. I just thought I should report this.
What you are experiencing is a video card failure. Likely prompted by the card overheating, or responding to a temperature spike caused by the game. DR has played havoc on some older systems.
I use speedfan to increase the airflow over the card. Google it.

While it could be a video card failing double check a few things. What are you doing exactly when it crashes. Nvidia driver fault could be to blame. What hardware do you have are you running an SLI configuration? A lot of unknowns to try and help atm

Had the same issues with my 3 year old system.
my card is supercool, its not an overheating issue.
plus the game is LOADING so its had no time to overheat
People may forget that at one time this game could make card catch on fire!

Could be a Power Supply issue. How old is your PSU?

Thx - Im not looking for help. I am trying to report this because it too coincidental that I only have this issue with STO and then at a certain point every time. You know after you get all that text about errors that we are told to ignore.

Do you happen to play any other games or do anything else that would put a strain on your computer?
