Playing STO through Steam, the launcher does nothing, just sits there loading, there are no problems on my end, already done everything required. The problem seems to lay with connections through the Crypticstudios servers. I am in the UK, so somewhere along the chain, something is broke!
I would test through Arc but that won't even get past checking for updates.
Read the pinned topic, no help, the game worked fine last night, but not today.
Also in the UK, also having this. It was fine this morning up until about 10-11, and then I got some really bad lag and decided to log off and come back later, came back a couple hours later and the launcher wouldn't even load up. It's now 4pm.

Exactly where it freezes seems to vary, sometimes it'll get stuck straight away as a black box with the 'loading, please wait' message in the corner, usually it gets stuck about half way in to loading the actual launcher but before the login section loads preventing me from logging in. Once or twice I've managed to log in and then get stuck on the patching screen. Once I've even managed to log in and start the game, and while the loading screens worked fine all the way up to the 'retrieving character list' section, it then took ages to load up my character and then I got a login timeout when I tried to actually enter the game.
At this point I'm just going to give up, hopefully it's just temporary and it'll be fine by tomorrow.

Another UK resident, the same. I thought it was my Internet connection, but apparently not. It worked in the morning fine, but when I tried to log in around 4 PM, three attempts didn't work.
So I didn't give up after all and kept trying on and off, eventually managed to actually get in game and 'playing'. I used the quotes because the game was so laggy that all I was really able to do was fly around in sector space a bit and get some new doff missions going. And of course, now that I'm back out again my launcher still isn't working properly.
Uk here too and been having issues with lag and timeouts all day (launcher & in game).

Seems the problem could be localised around Manchester if I'm reading that right, either way not sure if Cryptic can actually fix this - time to call my ISP (groans)
Are you all with Virginmedia? When I did a tracert to patchserver.crypticstudios.com, three of the hops timed out and all of them were to servers inside Virgin's network.

Your use of "virgin" , "wait" and "hope" pretty much sums up my experience with them.
My Sky connection doesn't work at all (I assume it's because of those winds). In the morning I played tethering my phone connection: 3. It worked fine, but it doesn't anymore.

same problem for me i managed to get the launcher to load after waiting for about an hour and now its just siting at the patch screen after i entered my password & im also with VM + being a pc tech helps as well, i checked my net connection & pc & theres no problems
