STO really marginalized the borg - pity.
In ST: birth of the federation (4x strategy - still recommand playing it to those who haven't even if it's dated) the borg cube encounter will wipe out whatever you throw at it.. it's better to just leave it alone.
This can be fixed by claiming the borg we've seen so far are underpowered extensions of a larger 'body' located in the vast areas of the galaxy still unexplored. (i'm assuming the galactic core isn't explored much? always a place to put a big bad boogyman...)
Actually, you can take out the borg cube, in Birth of the Federation, if you are playing Romulans or Klingons.
Decloaking a massive fleet of 60 or so ships getting first strike. You had to throw a ridiculous amount of resources in ships with cloaking devices at the cube, but it could be done.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on a copy of Botf? I know it's a little aged but I've been wanting for years to play that game. Closest I've gotten are some fan made spinoffs.

You know what happens if you DON'T kill the Borg in BotF? they wipe out solar system after Solar system, periodically increasing in numbers, eventually they will over run your empire like a tidal wave if you don't stop them. Also... they leave class-J planets in their wake which are the LEAST useful type. Oh and any race that lived in the system(Bajorans, Vulcans, etc....) is now extinct and will never be seen again until you start a new game.
Granted destroying them is difficult, but far from impossible. And given the dire consequences of NOT destroying them.... The line must be drawn here and no further!
I usually played Feds. It takes a LOT of ships, but if you have high level ships you can not only destroy the cube but keep some of your ships afterwards.
is this like those how many .......... does it take to TRIBBLE in a lightbulb jokes?!
like how many egotists does it take to TRIBBLE in a lightbulb > just one, they hold the bulb to the fitting and just let the whole world revolve around them.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Blocking the sun has *nothing* to do, whatso-frikkin'-ever, with the surface of the sun! Rather, it's about blocking off a small visual area, the portret of the sun, as seen by your eyes, maybe 5cm in diameter, tops.
So, in order to block the sun, even 100 or so ships in orbit could do it, provided they are close enough to YOU. And at 1m distance from you, even 1 ship would suffice.

More seriously though, considering the whole time travel aspect to the delta recruiting event, I agree that the solution is almost guaranteed to have something to do with time travel.
Time travel ray guns.

Sela probably played her last gambit in this timeline, i think she knows this timeline is over, if there are that many ships but then again she didnt seem surprised by the number of iconian ships either which suggests she had a fairly good idea about what is happening next, she gave some fairly obvious hints about time travel, the key to stopping the iconians, revealing the threat.
i suspect the storyline will be a simple reaper invasion followed by a tardis jump to the past with advanced knowledge of the invasion, your future self will then inform your past self of what is to come and how to avoid the iconian plot thereby creating an alternative reality, but it will require building up forces, delta recruits are basically fast tracked captain cadets, more like conscripts with advanced understanding a learning that will help defeat the reaper invasion of the galaxy when it arrives. then the storyline will conclude with the iconians getting kicked out along with sela realizing and helping out, perhaps even 8472 will drop by and help? but unlikely.
aint it a damned shame no one thought to use time travel for Romulus and Remus? Its not like there are Romulan Time Ships floating around to do it in game... and not like Star Trek has a history of saying 'f*&k this Im saving my planet' every time something screws with it. /sarcasm
Sela: Iconian minds aren't like ours. They're entangled with chroniton states -- I'll spare you the boring details.
It helps to orient them when using their gateways, but it means that they can't go back and forth in time like we can. Doing so would cause the Iconian to lose its memories of the intervening time.
that was some of the dialogue missed because of invisible sela bugs in Uneasy Allies...and that's definitely how we're going to beat them

T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
Uh, guys... it's a damn game, and Sela doesn't know everything. Presumably there were a few hundred thousand of those Quas Cruisers (Or were they Vonph dreadnaughts? All the big Herald ships kind of look the same.) and they were basically blotting out the sun in the local area... Along with the visibility of the still-lit other side of the sphere. Additionally, it's possible that this sphere's sun is partially obscured by something already and is in a perpetual, but hospitable, night.
...And even if not, we can just blame this on bad writing. It doesn't need to make total sense.

are they actually true Iconian Ships, or Herald Ships that will ultimately look and function differently than the Heralds?

The Iconians build these things regularly. In the quatrillions is a perfectly believable number of ships.
His adjusted number was 17 trillion

And for cool effect, I leave this here.
Thus the real question now is how many iconian...ehem I mean herald ships are fitting inside the moon? :P

to claim otherwise is just silly and wrong.
As it should be.
That actually sounds rather Trek-like. Colour me surprised. :P
